just had this idea watching an autograss championship final on tv

how about a server option where a reserve grid is formed up based on online PBs for the track / car in question. then each car has its own virtual start lights and can only go (without false starting) when their lights turn green.

i'd sugest something on the lines of

number of laps X difference of PB

up to a maximum of 75% of the fastest lap

ie 10 lap race

car a is 2 secs a lap slower than b

so has 20 sec advantage at start

or

30 lap race

car is 2 secs a lap slower than b

car b takes 60 secs to lap track

so car a has 45 sec advantage not 60 as 75% of b's lap time

probably too complicated for the limited appeal but some form of time handicap would be interesting as in theory all cars should finish at about the same time
Great way of relocating the T1-carnage to the last turn on the last lap .

Seriously, sounds a bit too much of an effort, imho. But if we ever get proper rallye stages, that could be an option to stagger the start a bit differently.
Would be an idea - just easier to do it on classes.

Something like this used to happen in the BTCC in the days of the Production class, they got a 12 second head start and a 1 lap advantage. It was a little gimmick to see if the BTC-T could catch the BTC-P cars and they always did.
to be honest i thought it would be too much trouble but it would be good, used to see a few handicap races at races in the 70's and it was always exciting especially when you had a car which was slower overall but faster in a straight line than the faster cars.

i seem to recall seeing races run to this format in either australia or new zealand (sorry for insulting both of you by not knowing which one it was) on motors tv last year
