Driver swapping and skin loading
I was just informed that skin loading may be a problem during driver swapping. Is this the case for just a select few or is it a general issue?
I thought the skin stayed the same during a driver swap, only the helmat would be diffrent. Right?
Yeah. But if a driver hasnt raced before, he has to download all skins before being able to join the server. This could be around 10mb in the worst case.

Ah point made, though these days lfs load DDS files insted of normal skin files correct?
Would be wise to invest in a dds zip file thingy to maybe solve the problem but chances are people will make changes, so that makes that useless.

Proberly would happen to me if i were racing in the series so thats one to the list
as we have enough spectator slots i would say allow people to join the server in the lap their driver comes in for a driverchange.

It is a problem.

According to the rule:
Quote :a driver may only join the server when the car he wants to swap into is in the last sector of the race track

One of our drivers couldn't enter the server in time because the skin download took to long. So maybe the rule can be modified to:
Quote :a driver may only join the server when the car he wants to swap into is in the last lap of the stint

or something like that

Hm, I "solved" this problem by connecting to the server before qualifying only to download skins, in previous seasons I sometimes did that like 10-15 mins before the race, but this can't be solution for all 150 drivers. One nice way would be to download a replay of the last qualifying or even start of the race that someone usually posts and get skins from there well before going into the race. Only some helmet skins are left to be downloaded then which takes very short time.
High res skin users can get bogged down even by helmets.

Same for us (ZWR GT1).

He started to join at last split and when he was on the server i just started out of my box ...
In all of our driver swaps we started to connect just after the driver goes past split one, even without the skin downloading there was some funky bugs for us like no cars showing up with loads of lag messages around the place.

Would be nice if it was a lap though, I remember in the 24 hour race of GP Rev a driver took so long to connect he got into the server about 30 seconds after the driver on track had allready left the pits.
On my first driver swap I joined when my team car was just entering the oval section. I didn't enter the server until after the pit was completed with the skins loading. After that it wasn't a problem.

Would be good if there was a say 10 min pre race time for drivers to join JUST FOR skin download. Or create a skin pack to be downloaded.

I think it is. I watched the quali replay, but still had to download a bunch, and on top of that we also have a huge connections list now

Niki (previous driver) was panicking while I was downloading and then searching for him. Got into the seat just in time (maybe a tad delayed), and didn't get to calibrate my wheel.. :P
Most of the skins should be available in the replays of the qualifying. Another option would be to post the replay of the start. Always nice to see and while doing this you can download all skins.
