Jason Plato Burned By Flaming Caparo T1 While Filming 5th Gear
#2 - J@tko
Serves them (him and Tom Ford, who incidentally , lives near me and broke three toes) for setting fire to all Top Gear's props!
Quote :The presenter, who was not wearing a race suit, suffered burns to his hands, neck and face.

The ruddy muppet was'nt wearing a race suit. WTF!

Even the Stig (or Cuddles) wears a racing suit when doing his lap, who does Plato think he is.....God

.......oh wait, hang on. I think he does

How can people say Top Gear is dangerous when Fifth Gear is driving prototype supercars without racesuits? At least Top Gear always makes sure their presenters and Cuddles are safe!

Well it proves the point of why one should wear a race suit in a racing car (and also why the Caparo is going to make a crap road car)

Seriously though it seems as though (from what he said in his quote) that he didn't kill the engine or release the extinguisher, which I would expect to be his initial two reactions to any serious fire
Lol... the Caparo Is Supposed to be a Road car, and I'm sure he did kill the engine. The problem is it was already engulfed in flames...

Does serve them right for burning Top Gear down...
Well on the plus side he couldn't get much uglier, and 'chicks dig scars'.
The fact he didn't have a race suit is kind of understandable since its meant to be a road car, but there seemed to have been no medical team on site...pure madness imo.
lol... "Slightly Detuned IRL Engine" in the Caparo... 2 notes:
1) be glad it wasn't running methanol like champ cars do (i know champ != IRL), but clear fire is bad.
2) should make for good tv?
'OMG smoke!, he must be burning alive'
I think his 'injuries' were very very minor.
Its probably a 5th gear smear campaign on the righteous Caparo T1. I guess they like burning stuff a lot.
Clarkson did say 5th Gear were trying to copy them with the 'crashes'

The Caparo is a road car mate. Do you wear a racesuit when YOU are driving your car maybe pushing it a little bit? No. It was a freak accident. It's a road car. He shouldn't need a race-suit to drive a road car.
He should to drive one on a track, especially as it's basically a prototype.
do you think if Plato had LFS he would use the driver hack? lol
Quote from tristancliffe :He should to drive one on a track, especially as it's basically a prototype.

So you are forced to wear one at track-days are you? no... Not here anyway.

Stop flaming him(no pun intended) It wasn't his accident, it was somebody elses he just got burnt for it. Don't know why he annoys so many people. He is good at his job/s. His first car was a VW Beetle, so this in it's own right shows the best testiment of character.
People at track days are driving what are, to all intents and purposes, unproved prototypes, but sorted road cars with proven technology. A lot less risk of stuff catching fire generally.

But I think anyone who goes on a track in any car should wear a fireproof suit - I do when I go on trackdays.

You do a track day in what is far virtually an untested race car, which I'd of thought would be far more likely to end up smoking than a sorted race car let alone an everyday road car. From the pictures it really doesn't look like anything much, overdramatised like the Hammond Willhire bump. What I do find alarming though is the suggestion from the article that he didn't (or wasn't able to) use the extinguisher instantly and that there wasn't a fire car or paramedics immediately on the scene of a supposedly serious fire.
Pictures were very disappointing... Won't make for good TV after all...
Here's a vid from Autocar of the T1.

Funny how the guy (Sutcliffe) doesn't wear overalls, but the test-driver/instructor or whoever it is obviously thought racing overalls are a good idea

Wow what a car, I think i'd have to add a Tennalady to my equipment list if I got one of them...

EDIT: Re Plato - the guy gets flamed in the forums around here often enough so I dont suppose it was a new experience.
