Unreal Tournament 3 Demo...

madman: It depends what you want. The thing with UT is it sells, its a solid fps, and changing too much will annoy everyone. Epic don't care about the game that much really, if it bombs its no skin of thier nose, since lots of games companies buy the engine anyway. Let others do the inovating with thier engine :P.

Anyone got stranglehold? another UE3 game. Great fun
Anything after UT2003 sucked hairy mutant nuts, UT with vehicles is just a copy of Halo which is doubly sheet. Looks as if they have vehicles in this edition too, so no deal for me.

This is true. Think of the UT series as a big advert for the engine, rather than a game in itself. If its fun to play, then that's a bonus.

I strongely disagree. UT vechicles copy`s of Halo?
Oh comon, I never liked Halo, and I don`t understand the big fuzz with it anyway.
I liked UT2004 a lot, and are looking forward to play this version too.
Going by the way UT3 plays, then this newest engine has a bright future ahead of it. I'd disagree about Epic not caring about UT3 though- anyone who works for that company must surely be huge UT freaks and be very serious about first person shooters. I've seen videos, they're freaks.

I believe we'll be introduced to more weapons and new stuff in the full game. One thing I've seen is the ability to create a giant wall of green jelly which slows down projectiles. That's a bit different. No idea what else is in-store.

The War of the Worlds walker thing is great fun- the first time I hopped in that I couldn't get the smirk off my face- I managed about 15 kills in a row. You really feel like the thing from War of the Worlds, it's the best 'vehicle' yet imo. The other vehicles I think are pretty crap- no different or better than UT2004. I much prefer normal ground combat- the vehicle CTF map is the weakest in the demo for me.

So, yeah, it's Unreal Tournament. The ragdoll physics is the same, the guns feel very similar, gameplay is instantly recognisable. Probably the biggest change will simply be the content and the presentation. UT has always been the champion when it comes to designing over the top and imaginative set pieces, so I'm keen to see what they've done with it.

Amen, good said.

Well, I tested the game, and was disapointed. But not of the game, but of my computer
It really shows that I need a new computer, since mine showed crappy grahics and low FPS.
I tried everything on max, and it looked shit :P Well, thats probally because my system is outdated and canot show correct graphics, because it looked like shit on my computere hehe.

What is the requirments to play this game? Dx10 card, or newer cards will probally show a lot better graphics than my little poor computer could do ^^
.net ? pls tell me i dont have to install this useless vm
UT3 looks pretty nice, sometimes when im dead laying down, i just stare at the character textures etc, so it looks pretty nice (running max graphics here max resolution).
Quote from [RCG]Boosted :hmm...
i dont have enough space on C: since it wants to install something there too...
how can i change the path where it extracts the temporary files to?
ive got almost 2 GB free but after it has extracted the setup there isnt enough space since it wants over 700 MB there then...
anyone knows?

anyone?
i cant try it before this problem isnt cleared...
It's a shame AA isn't supported . Even at 1680x1050 everything has a blurry appearance (their solution to jaggies, I'm guessing).

Still, I haven't really played UT since the original, so I've been enjoying the demo so far, though I still resent the fact that the Unreal games have never had the nicest aiming feel :thumbsdow.

What do you mean Aiming feel? :X I think the aiming is spot on, specially with hit scan weapons.

Electric kar: I'm not saying they don't care about... Just it won't impact epic if UT falls on its face. The fact is, theres already a ton of games using UE3, and a lot more to come. Hopefully they'll stick to just selling hte engine and making UT, cause other games they've made recently haven't been all that great (yes i mean gears of war... its crap face it.).

Totally agree. UT just makes FPS's fun to play. Everything thats great in a game, Over the top effects, mental game play... its well unreal. Just the fact they aren't trying to be realistic, or gritty or anything like that. Kinda like how Richard burns rally compares to sega rally revo, sega rally knows what it is, its an arcade racer, with fun at its center, exactly the same for the UT series I feel.
As for the walker, not used it yet, but will be giving it a go in oh about... now.

Woah woah, what? Do you mean it's just not in the menus, or that you can't even force it via graphics card settings? That is a piss-off.

Yep, monsters on skateboards
No wonder why the first UT (now aka UT99) is still played much more than the 2003 and 2004 editions.

Yes!
I'm afraid AA will only be supported in DX10 mode. Bizarre but true. Confusing as heck as well, because Bioshock, running on the same engine, supports AA in DX9 mode, but not DX10!

I'm hoping future patches will sort this out :nut:
Im downloading to check if my machine can handle the UT3 engine. Gears of Was also uses the engine and soon will be on PC and cant wait to play it since I dont have X360.
why cant those guys use more than a 265 colour palette when they create a level ?
honestly it looks rubbish washed out blurry and everything is the same brownish tone of colour

Yea, one thing that is a bit disappionting. The levels seem less bright and colourful, unlike in UT99. The level I played (heatwave) had some very cool effects, but the general downtrodden look of the place didn't look that great .
I'll download the demo as soon as I manage to free up some space on my HDD. The only reason i want to try it is to see how my PC handles all that eyecandy :P
oh, btw, Quake 3 FTW !
Meh, exactly the same as it was years ago, maybe it's my age, but I think I have grown out of these "twichter" shooters, it just left me cold.

I have to agree there, graphics to me looked awfully blurry and every map looked very similar.

It's not a bad game, its just not that great either.

@Danowat: my thoughts exactly!

Haha yer I was thinking the same thing. Looks ok - nothing special in my eyes though :/

I just really don't like the UT style shooters, they seem to require no skill, just bash the jump button and click furiously. I'll stick to CS:S.

Reading that sentence and looking at you avatar and digging around in my brains memories of the BOOM HEADSHOT video made me burst out in a girlie laugh LOL!

Hahahahaha ha ha.
Yeah, the only reason you don't do the same in CS:S is because they introduced a anti-bunnyhop stamina thingy. So instead you strafe around corners and do the twitch headshot or spray 'n pray headshot. Ah well, each to his own I guess, you just like the other kind of unrealistic. I like neither.
How can people manage to say that the graphics looks exactly the same as they did in UT2004?
I`ll bet you don`t unning on the best graphic option, aswell that you a computer that shows awfull graphics :P
I come from an era where graphics mean shite if the gameplay is no good, and the gameplay in UT is exactly the same as it was back in 04, all thats happened is they have chucked some spangly effects at it.

So in essence, apart from a few gawdy trinkets, it's exactly the same as UT2004
