hi i play lfs but i hate it when it freeses and looses the conection if you have any way to help me out with this problem then could you send an email to [email protected] thanks
Hi Lloyd
well win XP is a good start
are you using AOL broadband? or dialup? do you know the connection speed (512kbps 1024kbps ect)
do you have a modem they sent you? or a router maybe?
how does it connect into your PC (usb or ethernet plug?)
do you use wireless connection?
are there any other PC's (LAN) that use the same connection?
do you have many processes running when you play LFS (ctrl-Alt-Delete click processes tab)
do you use P2P software or Torrent software? if you do check in processes that its completely off, before starting LFS.
what ping times do you get in the server list within LFS?
OK Im not a user of AOL Ive never heard it rated could be that your ISP is using "traffic shaping" or "port blocking" this could be the main cause of your prob, tech support should be able to tell you if they are employing these restrictions.
the more info you can give the more chance there is of someone here being able to help you
right im using windows xp
im using aol 9.0 with bradband and also the modem they gave me im not sure on the speed of it
it conects via a USB in the back of the tower
i dont use a wireless conection but i shall get a wireless router when i get my wireless laptop at xmas
there are no other pc that conect to mine
i dont have any other things running whilst playing lfs but some times i have msn or windows media player running
im not sure about the 'p2p' thing
im not sure what u mean by 'ping times'
hopefully that is some better info 4 u m8
Do you lose connection at other times or only when you play this sim?
Its worth checking your cables from the phone point to the modem and then to the PC, do you use any other USB devices? wheel or pad KB, mouse ect? some gamepads can mess up things sometimes.
try to limit the amount of programs runnig in the background even MSN and media player can have an effect online, press ctrl-alt & Delete together and the taskmanager should come up then you can click the process tab and see whats runnning,
P2P is things like Kazzaa and Limewire music(and other files) sharing programs, AOL are probably using content filtering and could be slowing or even resetting your con form time to tme.
Ping times are shown ingame in the multiplayer connection list see pic below, what XXms times are you getting when you display the server list?
Is the modem in your house/flat/castle connected to the master BT point? or is it connected to a secondary point? (the master is the first box the phone cable from the pole/ground connects into and normally has a horizontal split type front)
If you can try it in the master point (with the front half of the cover unscrewed as this temporarily disconnects all the secondary points)
if it works fine in the master your internal cabling could be faulty.
I think your problem could be either your PC's power supply not being able to run your PC + Modem + anything else you plug in. OR, your ISP/BT, maybe you are a great distance from exchange, OR faulty internal phone cables, OR, the modem you have is overheating (is it some 105 or 150 BT thing?)
It could of course be any number of things but thats all I can think of off the top of my head
try to connect your modem with a network cable (rj45) and a network interface card (faster than USB), it seems to be a problem with broadband and USB, i don't know why but its a known problem !!
it happen with me, and when i switched on a router i did'nt had any problem at all !!!
i've supported a lot of people with their modem problem, and i fixed it with a network card, and a rj45 cable it can cost around 25 -30$ca for the duo :-)
