So, what do you think of the Orange Box?

I love TF2, it's killer fun. I know several good servers in NA (atleast for me, I get a single digit ping when it's full )
Wahey, completed Portal in one sitting. The story is brilliantly eerie, funny and I want a Weighted Companion Cube for Xmas!

Also, the gameplay is great. Had to use a walkthrough for 15 and 17 though.

Ordered today, because I skipped the whole(!) HL2-thing. I´m pretty excited...
Oh screw you all, you've got me wanting to play Portal now, so I've had to buy the whole orange kaboodle just in case I want to play any of those at a later date.

Gits, all of you.

Is Portal enjoyable playable with a XP2400+ / GF4ti4200 / 768 MB SDRAM kind of system ?

I really liked the flashgame but all my money is in my car ...

heck the flashgame caused 100% CPU usage at the last levels
Herki: Have a manly hug, you genius.

Still getting a plush one though

Wouldn't it be safer to keep it in a bank or something ?

I dont trust banks and nobody would break in my car as it hasnt got a stereo.
Lollo !
I loved half life since the original back in the day... I love the story line, and while Alex is bloody annoying, that's ok, because loads of people are bloody annoying in the real world, like Kev.

I've completed the lot, and, I don't have a bad word to say, I like all of it.

Some of you who can't quite get enough of hl since playing hl2, might like to know the Black Mesa Source project is re-doing hl1 for the source engine at immense quality. I wish I could play hl1 through again, but the graphics are so poor, and the interactions comparatively so simple, its not really worth it. This is going to change all that.

A friend has just bought it for 360 so I can't wait to see what it looks like on 40" at HD.

I've got hl1 and ep1 to give away via steam if anyone is interested, best pleaded fanboy case for each gets one.
I've also got HL2 to give away if anyone wants it. Episode 1 is already spoken for though, sorry.

Edit: HL2 has gone now too.
Just finished Portal. I haven't been so sad to finish a game for... maybe ever. What a lovely, lovely, beautiful game.

The source engine is pretty scalable, so I think you'll be ok with that (Ti4200 is DX7 is it not? Maybe DX8), but you'll have to have the detail down a fair bit.
It's not hard, it's use GCFScape to extract all the HL2 stuff outta the HL2.gcf in your steamapps folder, then throw them all into the portal folder (steamapps/username/portal/portal) and then in game, go to the console (if not enabled go options, keyboard, advanced, and tick enable dev console) then go changelevel <whatever level you want>.

Sadly, NPC and Enemys don't interact with the portals, they can't fall thru it, but everything else really can.

Yeah, that's exactly what the link on the youtube page says.

Thank you!

Yesss it works and its a great game
Just played the first few 'levels' of Ep 2, and with everybody ranting about Portal, I think I'll go out and buy the Orange Box this weekend..so, yet ANOTHER legit copy of HL2 will be up for grabs! (Havent got Ep 1 on disk...I got that from the same er...'shop' as I got Ep 2)
Some kind soul gave me Half Life 2 It's enough to reinforce your faith in human kind.

Now if anyone has EP1??
I've obtained HL2 and been playing through it and really enjoying it, surprisingly it plays comfortably on my computer on fairly high settings (1280x960, high detail, no AA/AF) I haven't really noticed any large drops in performance and seem to get about 50 fps on average. I'd like to get a legitimate copy of HL2 and the rest of the contents of the Orange Box looks well worth it. What sort of performance am I likely to get with the newer bits on my PC (2.8ghz P4, ATI 9600Pro)?

I'd like to get it over Steam, and I think from reading the stuff on Steam I will be able to simply login and redownload the games on my new PC, does anybody know if it's simple to do this with Steam?

Yes, it is registered with Valve that you own the game, so once you login with your account you simply have to download it again...
That's my favourite aspect of Steam, as I have a real habit of losing the CDs to my favourite games. Hooray for CD-less content!
Thanks for the answers

One other question is there a way to change the currency displayed in Steam or do I just have to buy it in dollars?
Divide everything by two. USD is pretty much exactly 2 to the pound at the moment.
