Quote from Jakg :But theres no point, if you can only afford an 8600, then only buy an 8600 - if you then end up with a spare £100 you'd be MUCH better getting somethng like a 2900 Pro / 8800GTS rather than an 8600GTS.

SLi (imo) sucks - you have to pay more for a chipset that isn't neccesarily better, while getting more noise and a beefier PSU.

then ill keep the mobo, but the 2900 r like 350€ for 1 card....
The 2900 Pro is like £170, whereas two 8600GTS's are £220...

If you can only afford an 8600, only get an 8600, but why spend all the money on an inferior chipset (typically nForce chipsets aren't as good as Intel Chipsets for Intel CPU's) when something like a P35 is cheaper and better...
IMO the extra vRam is handy, but not worth it, and i wouldn't bother with the 2900XT, as the Pro can overclock to it's clock with ease...
Are the HD2900 Pro's any good compared to the 8800GTS? Is the performance loss a driver issue, or straight up hardware limits? Are they worth getting and overclocking? Or is the 8800 still the way to go?

So far the 2900 Pro is beating the 8800GTS 640 most of the time, and it overclocks past the XT, all while being cheaper than the 320.

Hopefully my next card (if i wasn't skint)
Ahh thank you. I can't be arsed to look it up. I've been focusing on Xeons and Gigagyte boards. Sucks what happened with your 7950 purchace, those cards got dirt cheap pretty quick. I was going to throw on a Quad, and an 8600GTS, but decided to drop it to a Dual Core and throw a GOOD DX10 card on. And don't say I'll regret it. A dual core is PLENTY for me.

intel core 2 duo E6850
4gig of patriot ram memory

HIS hd2900PRO

i'm sooo happy,
i ordered the new card,so i hope its arrived
Isn't it a P35...?

Nice rig, if you feel like overclocking the Pro should do XT clocks with ease
