[Forum Suggestion] Thread starter able to lock/reopen/delete thread
As title, and it may help reduce the amount of spam if people do lock threads after they have run their course.

Deleting would only be a 'soft delete' leaving the content still viewable to those with the powah.
Sounds okay if:
1) Deleting only available before a certain reply count is reached.
2) Reopen only available if it was locked by the OP himself. Mod locks should not be reopenable.

Lock is fine by me, but whole threads disappearing because the OP didn't like where the discussion was going wouldn't be that great.

What I would add
- Renaming of thread title possible before a certain reply count is reached

That way at least those people who genuinely made a typo have the chance to repair it.

Good point about the deleting.

Pretty sure that a mod-lock isn't undoable by the OP, unless they are mod or above themselves.
Lock and reopen open to too much abuse in my opinion.

Thread rename for a short time would be okay, but not for the life of the thread.

Mods can lock/reopen and rename threads that need it.

Pretty sure thread title is doable, but has a grace period much like the time you can edit a post before the 'Edited By...' text appears.

You do it by double clicking the thread title in forum view.

Edit: Just tested, works.
No it doesn't. It only updates the bold text at the top of the thread post, but doesn't actually change the text on the forum overview.

E: At least it was like that not too long ago, maybe one of Victor's forum updates fixed that.

See OT Forum before my test gets deleted
+1 for locking. and changing titles
+1 for lock, and rename

-1 for delete, unlock

+2 to restricting to S2
You can delete you own posts, unless they are the first post in a thread. If they are the first post in a thread, I think you can delete so long as there have been no replies, and the thread will be deleted with it.
Note users can only ever soft-delete, real deletes are saved for mods/admins - and even then we rarely use them (can restore later if needs be then).
Imho it is better to leave the mods to decide whether a thread has gone enough off-topic or derailed or something. Fine as it is.

Maybe some kind of "hide thread"-thingie if too many people have reported the first post... like making the thread disappear from normal folks but mods could see it and decide what to do...

I can't think of any reason why allow normal people to lock/unlock threads. Leave it to mods, they need something to do too
Exactly. If self moderation would truly work, there wouldn't be any need to moderate anyway, as those posts would never appear (as people would think). Chances of that happening? I'll buy Satan some ice skates.
Locking - up to 5 posts in thread
Delete thread - erm.. why?
Rename thread - freely until a certain post count and allow a mod to give a thread "Renaming rights" (This would be useful for leagues with one thread)

Why not just PM a mod and ask him to change the thread title? It is the same much work for the mods anyway.

Although renaming a thread could be possible for few minutes after the thread has been created... just for the typos. Like 10 or 15 minutes.
A few of you must have missed a post up there.

You can change your own thread title for a limited period of time after posting. The vB default is 5 mins. Just double click the thread title in the forum view, edit, and hit enter.

I tested it yesterday, but asked for the thread to be deleted afterwards
