Just formated my hard drive...... copied lfs from my cd....... and now i cant see a single skin. Its downloading, but not showing and yes i got the automatic download option ON. Downloading the same skin again and again and again and i cant see it!

Any solutions?

Hmmm someone had the same problem a few months ago, I really don't know how he fixed it....

1. Please check with Win Explorer or whatever the attributes of your skins and skins_x folder. Select it in Explorer, hit ALT+Enter an check that there is no write protection enabled. Ok, try to set 'schreibgeschützt' to no and 'archiv' to yes, and not for the complete data folder, but for the subfolder skins and skins_x. The choice at Screenshot 2 is correct, that goes for all subfolders and files. If it still does not change the attributes, repeat it with the whole 'LFS alfa' folder.

This is becoming really frustrating for me.......... that also doesnt work!

Have you tried Vari's hint? This seems to be the problem.

I believe this is the correct command syntax for you:


If it still fails you should run checkdisk first by typing
in the command prompt. It will ask if you want to schedule a check during next boot.

Another way is to view properties of the C drive in my computer and selecting the tools tab->disk checking.

No, doesnt work. Not gonna bother you guys any more. My pc is not in good shape, 80% of my hard drive isnt formated, and the 20% is formated by FAT32, maybe i should have done it with ntfs.

start all over with a properly NTFS formatted harddisc, when just half (??) is in FAT there's something wrong, which program is calling this?

Medion is using proper HD brands like Seagate, isn't it?

Medion use ExcelStor HDs iirc. And their Mainboards have a lack of features, like missing temperature monitoring, no controls for fan speeds, ... That's what I have seen as a friend asked me to help him with his broken Medion PC.

/edit: As long as there is allready another partition with the free space, it would be no problem to format it without losing your running windows. Thus, you could install XP a second time on the second partition so would have access to your old files for a while. If there is no partition, software like PartitionMagic may help you.

Ok, a guy from Medion came to me and brought me a new Hard drive (Seagate S-ata "Baracuda"). Everything installed, drivers, the works. I gave LFS another chance, and still the same problem.

I have realized that it downloads the skins, but cant show them! How? I erased my "skins_x" folder and waited for downloads. Lets say that appr. 80% of skins were downladed, and those 20% were still downloading and downloading every 5 secs. Not even one of the skins which it automaticly downloaded apeared on the screen!

I tried showing this guy my problem and asked him to fix it. But, due to the fact he is a "tehcnition" he said just call microsoft, they should know.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

EDIT: again i copied, pasted it from my burned CD, maybe a download of the original LFS could help, dont know why it should?!?!?!?

Have you got administrator rights on the account you use for gaming?

Called microsoft..... called medion again........ they ashoured me that only when a "tic" is beside the option, then its "Schreibgesützt" (writeprotected?).
As you can see in the pictures 1,2,3 there is no "tic" only a green filled box.
Can this be LFS?

I suggest you format the partition where you want LFS to be with NTFS. Do a fresh Windows instalation, install SP2, and then download the whole LFS with patch Q zip(~130mb) and then unpack it, and see if it will work..

Well I wouldn't assume it to be the folder properties that is causing the problem - attached is a screengrab of my own skins_x folder which works fine, and it's showing that read-only in enabled.

However, when looking at the individual file properties of the jpgs inside the skins_x folder, not one of them is read only.

I presume you've tried deleting all the skins in there and then testing auto-download with an empty skins_x?

As you can see some skins were downloaded! And i can see them, but not the other ones! So it must be LFS related?

Running out of solutions, contacted the devs via mail, waiting for reply.

Why don't you try the suggestion Boris Lozac gave you instead of assuming it's not the problem? Start all over again and download the latest full version, unzip it cleanly to a new folder and then see if you still have the same behaviour?

Let me get this straight...

So... LFS says it's downloading the skins... And says its downloading some of those more than once in a loop...
While it is downloading those skins you don't see any of the downloaded skins, but when you disco and reconnect to the server, you see the previously downloaded ones, but not the ones it hasn't finished downloading yet?

If so... I've had that problem once... There's a list of skins it's downloading in the player options (I think)... See which skins are on there, and try to stop them downloading (you can cancel the downloads by clicking them or something, can't really remember... When you've done that, turn automatic skin downloading to off, and connect to the same server again... Then disconnect, turn automatic skin downloading back on, reconnect, and for some strange reason, from that moment forth, it would simply download all the available skins for me. There may be a small bug in the automatic download functions, causing the skins to become corrupted, or the wrong message received when downloads finish. Most common for me were helmet skins not downloading correctly.

Like you see on the first post ,its 4:53, and i just formated my hard at 15:00 i got a new hard drive with everything installed (meanwhile trying peoples suggestions), etc, etc........

Because i ran out of options, after trying everything!

I even asked you two weeks ago if it was ok to burn LFS on a disk and then copy it on the hard drive because i had an entition on getting a new hard! Well since I did that LFS cant download skins (tried also downloading the full version)!

I dunno, I still think my first reply is pretty darn similar to this issue. Did you PM that guy?

Because his problem was very close to what you are having problems with, and when I joined to test with him, I would just sit there trying to download the skins he had uploaded and it had the same results.... just wouldn't fully download. I dunno But you might get some help asking that guy, that's all I have to offer. I just clearly remember the skins constantly trying to download (just like you said every 5 secs), and it was really wierd.


And I still don't think calling Microsoft helps at all.... your best option to get help with LFS is here on the forum. And as Victor said, try everything here and maybe even calm down a bit.... because it is much harder to solve something with someone that is flipping out and hard to communicate with.
