Problem with resolution
I just discovered a little problem with lfs that i haven't had before. I usually connect my laptop to a 20" lcd-screen when i play, and when i start up lfs, the resolution is set at 1680 x 1050, same as i run in windows, max resolution for the screen. But now when i started up lfs, it was set at 1024 x 768, and it looked pretty bad. So i went in to change it, but the option for 1680 x 1050 wasn't there. The best resolution i can select is 1200 x 800, and with that resolution i get "widescreen"-lines on top on bottom of my screen, even though my screen is a widescreen.

Anyone knows what causes this? I have a ati mobility x1400 if thats useful information, by the way!

It's most likely something that's not quite right in your driver settings. LFS just reports any resolutions Windows says it can do, so if something's missing it's usually something that's not set up quite right.

Have you perhaps set the external monitor to clone mode so it's hitting the laptop screen's max resolution? Updating drivers could also be worth a shot if all else fails.
No, my 20" is running at 1680x1050 now (in windows), but when i launch the game, it changes to 1280x800. But isn't it funny that when i use 1280x800 i get "widescreen-lines" on top and bottom of my screen? 1280/800 = 1680/1050, so there shouldn't be any problem filling the screen with that resolution, i would think.
Although, this is just one more problem in the endless list of problems i got with my acer laptop, i hate it so friggin much! Maybe it desperatly needs a format anyways..

Try deleting the card_cfg.txt file?
Funny story, after i wrote my last response, i shut down my laptop, and went to school. At school, after the class had begun, i fired up my good 'ol acer, and before it startet up windows, it went into the thing were it checks the disc for errors because it wasnt shut down properly (which it actually was). After 5 mins of that, windows started in a resolution unknown to man, the mouse arrow was huge!

And then it started beeping, constantly. Nothing was on the screen except the blue background, and the hourglass (mouse thingy).. I had to force it off by holding in the off/on-button, and restart the thing. Started it this time in safemode, but nothing happened, restartet again, and it worked. Got into windows, and the resolution was set to 640x480 or something like that.. Changed the resolution again to 1280x800, max for the screen, and it was up and runnig! Great achievement, my favourite acer laptop! I LOVE YOU!!!

Anyways, back to topic. I'm home again now, connected my 20", started up, resolution was set to 1280x800 on the screen, and both the screen on laptop and the "external" one was on. So i set pushed the "fn"+"screen mode"-bottons on the laptop to only use the external screen, and it changed automatically the resolution to 1600x1200 as it usually does, even though this doesnt fit the screen. I changed it to 1680x1050, and started LFS. Now more resolutions was selectable in the options-menu, so i could select 1680x1050 again!

In conclusion, problem solved! I just doesn't know why! All i know for sure, steer away from an acer if you see one! No, by the way, don't do it. Don't steer away, run right over it. It deserves it!
Quote from flonoen :All i know for sure, steer away from an acer if you see one!

I fully support your statement and wholeheartedly share your sentiments and pain.

So far I haven't been successful in totally banning Acer from the firm I work for, but I was for laptops. That's a start.

Wow. I feel your pain. Quirky hardware is quite possibly worse than the plague.

These screen mode buttons intrigued me though. Are these special laptop buttons for changing which monitor gets the output? They could be the ones screwing things up. If it happens again, try switching mode through the Catalyst Control Center instead. Unless Acer have built their own driver configuration panel that is, in which case I hate them too.
I have the catalyst control center, rarely uses it. I'll try the next time i get the problem (i know i will!). Acer has lots of stupid programs for everything, and they are all butt ugly! I remember when i got my computer, and installed msn 7 or so, and tried to send a file to my buddy. Acer security-something automatically wanted to encrypt an set an password to open the file, so i just deleted the program. But then msn didn't work anymore! I wish computer-producers would make it a choise when i start up the computer the first time, if i want those stupid programs. Not just make it default, because most users have no use of them at all. Same with norton 30 days trial.. If i want a 30 day trial of a lousy antivirus-prog, i will download it myself!!!

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest..
