Demonstrating F1 Overtaking Techniques
Quote :Strapped into AT&T Williams FW29 race cars on the Silverstone racetrack, former F1 drivers Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell show the various techniques F1 drivers use to overtake one another on the racetrack, including the ‘switch back’, the ‘hang out’, and the slipstream phenomenon. Martin Brundle also commentates video of the 2007 seasons, demonstrating where F1 drivers used these overtaking techniques during Grand Prix races.

They are driving nowhere near the limit, but it's interesting to see it anyway. And there's no better place to learn these techniques than LFS .
I love this kind of videos
This is gonna cause some mayhem on the servers
Nice video! I can actually remember using most of these, but the dummy. I suppose people on LFS don't follow the 1-block rule on straights, but the respectable ones will fall at the knees when i dummy them! I'll definatly be trying those out, watch out for me.
Only watched 30 seconds, and it looks interesting. It's on my to-do list to watch the rest later.
I watched it when it was broadcast on ITV before the F1, hopefully this will get people trying some new tricks. I use all of those moves in a race usually, I'm known for moving about behind people flashing my lights to distract them. Sometimes it works, sometimes the guy infront just laughs at it.
i find at competitive levels the only ones that really work are hanging them out to dry or the switch back, sometimes. Slipstreaming only really work in S-S cars when your doing a league race. My favourite is hanging people out to dry, because it's a bit rude too
The dummy can be a dangerous move because you don't never know for sure if the person in front of you is going to block you. The hanging dry thing is very very nice, I always do it to defend from switchbacks. It is also very annoying if the person in front of you does it because it takes all your speed away, unless you can see it coming.

A bit surprised they didn't show the passing from outside. By far the hardest move to make succesfully but yet so satisfying
The one-move rule is the main thing everybody that plays LFS should be at least aware of, but lots of people seem to think you're allowed back to the racing line (before the corner) after making the move. So many times someone will move across to defend - fine so you move back to the outside - and then they move back to the outside themselves moments before hitting the brakes, or worse whilst hitting the brakes. Dangerous.

You have to leave at least a car's width and a half in my opinion, and even then only move back if you're 110% sure there's room to do so. If you move all the way to one side to defend and the chaser pulls alongside, they can keep you pinned there all the way to the corner if they want - it was your decision to move
It was a very good video. Too bad that was almost every pass in the season when they showed examples.
Nice video, thanks for posting. Despite the British craze about Lewis Hamilton, they really do make an effort to provide nice coverage.

Here is how it's done during the races, or rather during one race. Brazil 2006 - a classic.
