*sigh*
I guess I must be the one to say it....

Is it just me or has the whole 'frames-per-second' thing turned into a big E-Penis competition. Who cares if you have the cash for a 1337 PC that runs games at stupidly high tripple digit numbers, with ass-loads of full screen AA and high quality AF. Sure, it's nice to say something like "I've got this card matched with this CPU, expect about this performance" But if your going on about how well shit runs on your computer just shut up...

I may be a little pissy about this topic, because I do have a fairly shitty computer, but even if I had some amazingly awesome future proof 8-core CPU, and 4-core GPU * I wouldn't be rubbing it in any chance I got...
~Bryan~

* For all you n00bs, there isn't such thing as an 8-core CPU, or a 4-core GPU (Unless you ran two quads in one system, and a quad-SLI setup...)
Besides, it's pointless to go for higher framerates than your monitor is capable of drawing. I'm not one to go over-the-top with AA and AF settings so I'm typically getting +100fps unless there's plenty of other cars in sight, but it's pretty pointless since turning v-sync on which limits fps to 100 I get so much smoother gameplay and no screen tearing.

Another thing is, use common sense when setting up those graphics options. No point maxing out AA and AF if you don't see any visual difference compared to medium settings.

It's just you.

Quote from rainspecialist :so for now i should just get a graphix card right?

Before you go and buy a new video card it would be a good idea to make sure that your motherboard even has a slot for a video card. Many boards with integrated graphics have no option other than the on-board video.

*sorry if that has been mentioned already, I didn't see it in my quick perusal of posts.

Amen, dropin. I agree. It also means, and I've typed this many times before in the last few years, that many folks only post their computer and framerate and think they are big $hit. I could have said that I see 80 FPS back with my onboard gfx, because I indeed could see 80 or even 120 FPS if I wanted to dumb down the graphics enough.

Frame rate means nothing unless you are comparing at similar graphics settings. So, put your e-penis's back away and zip up the fly. When someone asks how to improve on their poor 15-20 FPS, there's no need to start posting "I have the millenian falcon 25400 and I get 5541 FPS..." It's obvious that information isn't going to help the poor sole who wishes for help in fixing their 15 FPS.
so true. i only get 45-50 fps on my computer but that's because i'm running 3 monitors. maybe i should just stick with one at 1024x768 so i can say that i run LFS at 250 fps. judging by the attitude around here that would obviously be the better choice.
Hmm, I kinda thought this out in my head, but still, double checking
I have a 1.8ghz celeron , 768mb ram , leadtek 256mb FX5700 a360TDH I think, some semi crappy motherboard I guess... the thing is, I got a g25 as a gift.. But I cant enjoy it 100%... for instance, RBR is not an option anymore, I remeber playing rbr on HIGH with keyboard, the game stutters alot with g25 + LOW graphics... and in lfs... alone its really good, some 30, maybe 40fps, but smooth and good.. But multiplayer...with two cars , the fps is still ok in an empty server, but as more cars are in close proximity, I get fps even below 10.. sometimes even ~6... Usually, as the race starts, I try to get somewhere offroad immediatly , and then catch up gradually, the first lap in a smaller track usually never goes over 10% .. I mean, the wheel isnt that good then either, hence the reaction time... But looking at figures, my pc isnt THAT outdated or is it ? should I even bother doing some low cash upgrade, or just start saving for a new beast ? ... lil offtopic.. but it seems this is what is being discussed here..

you actually have 1Gb of RAM, its just your graphics card uses some for itself...greedy pig.

why can't he have 768?

512+256=...
Quote from harjun :you actually have 1Gb of RAM, its just your graphics card uses some for itself...greedy pig.

That made no sense. Harjun, go annoy someone else.
yeah. I have a 256mb that came with pc, and then few years back I bought and added 512mb , I dont remember, but the ram seemed to be compatible...
Btw.. shouldnt my pc be able to aleast turn on the NFS:PS demo ? I mean, just wanted to check it out, but when the intros end, and you are asked to click any button, I click it and get a "dont send"
error..
Everyone on this forum keeps saying, that the graphics card is the most important component to play lfs, but I am very sure, that its the CPU that doesnt allow me playing this... another wierd thing, maybe this helps someone helping me xD An equivalent pc, a lil older, actually a tad worse than mine, with a shittier graphics card (gforce 2 i think.. 32mb) but with a p4 1.6ghz cpu.. It so could run the Battlefield 2 multiplayer, it took long to load, lowest graphics, but PLAYABLE ! My pc was always running better than that friends.. BUT. I cant play bf2 at all o_0 it loads faster than that other pc, but , no mather what graphics, my fps I think is ~3 .. I didnt figure that one out at all... And as basic software goes, there should be no f**k ups there... win Xp is good, got the latest forceware 163.71 drivers, and some stuff runs good xD
cpu is if there are like...32 AI cars, otherwise its all your graphics card
5cars is way enough.... actually.. my fps sux with 3cars already, but still somehow I manage, because its not just low fps but stuttery at places.. 4+cars is a kill.. a 10car race @ start grid is pwnage if im not first on the line.. and even then fps sujx and my graphics I think except for a bearable resolution is the lowest almost..
But I always thought, my graphics card aint bad.. heres a link to it.. ofcourse there is the thing that its on 4x agp and not 8x due to mb..
I think my card was exactly this one -> http://www.leadtek.com/eng/3d_ ... 47&lineid=1&act=1
^HA! Your the first person to impress me with your reasons You know the race is gonna be horrible if its a busy server, and you pray to start as close to poll as you can, so you don't get pwned even BEFORE T1

Side note about AGP. I'm looking into a getting a stand-aline AGP card, but my motherboard is also limted to 4x, but after doing research, you won't get too big of a gain over 8x anyways, I guess bandwidth on 4x is enough to keep up. Just make sure your motherboard CAN supply the right voltage (Different AGP versions do have different voltage needs, but a lot of cards automatically catch what the motherboard support is, and switches to 4x or 8x mode)

Evilgenius: It's definately your CPU holding you down, especially if yours is based on Williamette core which on Celeron model is badly handicapped by having only 128kB L2 cache.

By the way, don't even bother trying NFS:PS. Even Crysis runs smoother than that crap while still looking damn good at lowest settings.
Hi,

I got a 8800 GTS, 4gb ram, good mobo. Good overall ecomputer i bought 2 months ago.

I run everything on high, on 1680x1050 and i get a steady 99fps

Should i get higher?

What hacked version of LFS do you have, where you can have 32 AI's!?

Harjun, just don't try and help when you have no idea what you're talking about. It's almost as bad as Niko's old habit of going and spamming "It's overheating" in every technical thread, atleast he was sometimes right.

try downloading a new driver off a website for your 8800GTS, the USA ones are better than the UK ones, more updated, you should get quite a high increase, what motherboard do you have, and what processor, 99fps on single player?

what refresh rate are you set for? if its 100 hz and you have vsync enabled then you'd be locked down like that.

..and you should leave it that way.

They wouldn't be any different...
the US and UK site should have the same drivers. You said that they were different, which is absolutely retarded,.

no...the U.S ones tend to be more updated than the UK one...

No, US drivers are no different than the UK drivers. What do you make this assumption on?
