Suggest Some Music For Me Please
Looking for some suggestions on what to put on my mp3 player. I've run out of ideas and since I'm now unable to think for myself I'm open to suggestions. To give you an idea of what ballpark to shoot for here's a list of artists who are on there already (usually between 2 and 5 tracks per artist, but there are some with only one track because it's special to me or a friend). Thanks.

Song Title: Otherside
Posted At: 01.06.2005

How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slittin' my throat
It's all I ever

Centuries are what it meant to me
A cemetery where I married the sea
Stranger things could never change my mind
I've got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on

I've got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on

How long how long will I slide
Separate my side
I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slittin' my throat
It's all I ever

No slagging off my/my friend's taste

(I left off the worst ones anyway...)

And no death metal playing with corpses and whatever stuff please
the fratellis

well i like em anyway
I would recommend you check out my last.fm profile but our tastes seem too dissimilar (although there is a little overlap) for it to be of any benefit.

I agree with spanky though, the latter two Carcass albums are much better than their earlier works, the starting point of melodic death metal and hold up well to stuff benig made a decade later.

Edit: Hmm, you could try Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, it's a little weird but I really like it and it might be within your taste envelope.

Bryan Adams? - Summer of 69 my favourite
Dire Straits? - Walk of Life my favourite

Just a couple!

I'll add more if I think of them.

If you want a good tip, then go onto the Radio 1/2 (your choices span both - probably more Radio 1 tho!) website, then check their playlists - thet'll give you some good ideas.
Maybe try some Hard-Fi? Their last album "Stars of CCTV" would be more fitting with your tastes, seeing their latest one "Once Upon in the West" has a bit of a more... different sound?

Just a quick suggestion, seeing my music taste is very similar to that.

Actually, I swear you've stolen my iPod if it weren't sat here in front of me...

Did you mean you've only heard 2-5 songs from these artists? Maybe you should sometimes listen "b-side" songs too.

Join Last.fm and you'll never run out of new ideas what to check out...
If you like Crazy Town, all my suggestions are pretty much out the window
The Strokes
K'Naan
De La Soul
Sara Tavares
Powderfinger
Billy Holiday
J Dilla
A Tribe Called Quest (best HipHop ever in my opinion)
Ben Harper
Pearl Jam
Richard Cheese
...

I'm not good at this... i can't think of them all without looking at my music folder/CD's.
Ben Harper, good call by jibber.
The Doors
Cypress Hill
Beastie Boys
Leftfield
Chemical Bros
Orbital
Funeral for a friend
Paramore
The Editors
British Sea Power
Wolfwother
Biffy Clyro - Puzzle (outstanding album IMO)
The Calling's Camino Palmero album I think fits that list. Might want to look at Lifehouse too.

Also try Breaking Benjamin. A little more metal-y than that stuff (and most of what I listen to), but check out songs The Diary of Jane and So Cold before you write them off.
Quote from J@tko :Bryan Adams? - Summer of 69 my favourite
Dire Straits? - Walk of Life my favourite

Hmm.
Hmm, quite some different music in that list..

Maybe you would like UNKLE. Or ofcourse Sigur Rós.
(both used quite often under Top Gear btw)

16 Horsepower
Album Leaf
Arcade Fire
Beck
Blur
Bright Eyes
Jeff Buckley
Calexico
Nick Cave (& The Bad Seeds)
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
Kaizers Orchestra
Mars Volta / Omar Rodriguez
Massive Attack
Muse
PJ Harvey
Prodigy
The Smashing Pumpkins
Soulwax (duo from Belgian, pop/electronic)
Tool (:P)
Underworld
Velvet Underground
Tom Waits

Some things from my list that might fit a little in that list.

I think the usual term is "hard rock". Damn good too (IMO). Three Days Grace and Chevelle are also similar if you haven't heard them.

Quote from danowat :The Editors
Wolfwother

Those two gets thumbs up from me.

Some of those are similar to what i listen to, but some aren't. Check out the bands on my last.fm charts (www.last.fm/user/mr_x)

You might find something from there.
Stone Roses
Arctic Monkeys
White Stripes
The Hives
and
Jamie Cullum, if you just wanna chill

edit: "The Go Team" are worth checking out, especially if you get a chance to see them live.
Ohh....Stone roses, that reminds me........

Ian Brown - Greatest

Ever track a winner, F.E.A.R. is one of my all time favourite tracks
Quote from Bob Smith :I think the usual term is "hard rock"

Nah, I consider them more metal than hard rock. I consider Aerosmith or Guns n Roses to be hard rock, and Breaking Benjamin are harder than them But sometimes if you say 'metal' to people they just stop listening, like I probably would have.
That machinima vid I'm Still Seeing Breen has a lot to answer for

Gavin DeGraw is my latest discovery. Kinda mellow, piano driven. The whole album at once feels a little samey but in a random playlist it's pretty good
Joe Satriani
Cream
Queen

I highly recommend Harvey Danger. But give them some time, it's a weird style at first... after you've listened the album two or three times you'll start to like it. Their one album is actually free for download from their site:
http://www.harveydanger.com/downloads/

Also, as someone said: MUSE!
Cheers for all the suggestions guys. Should be enough to keep us going for a while!
