Couldn't the forum automatically convert the *.bmp files into something else when you upload the files?

@geeman1: Barely noticeable difference - yes to the eye and without zoom. But if you actually want to use these screenshots as source for image editing then 80% jpeg quality is horrible.

Also maybe DX8.1 only supports saving as bitmap, but what hinders Scawen from using that bitmap output and converting it to PNG/JPEG himself? I mean, we can read JPEGs and convert them to DDS automatically, so saving as JPEG must be possible somehow, even if it's not directly through DX. The only problem I could see is maybe licensing issues regarding third party image format libraries

i see no reason why LFS can't save the file as a BMP. people need to stop being lazy and take 30 seconds to convert the file to another format. there are plenty of free programs out there that can do it.

Do you know why the LFS installer was changed from a zip archive to a self extracting exe (and ultimately to an auto updater)? The simple answer is that there were too many people who couldn't figure out how archives work. They either couldn't "install" LFS at all or extracted wrongly (without preserving folders). Believe me, I know how dead simple the BMP->JPEG conversion is, but many people fail at such simple tasks. Sometimes when reading a few "help me" threads here I'm surprised they know how to breathe.
