@Harjun: Karting is fiercly competetive. Rental karts and championship racing are leagues apart. It's like a trackday and the DTM, if you get my analogy. It's not arrive and drive. As Lep said earlier, you need about 10k Euros to consider a full season. I'm doubtful that you have what it takes. Nothing personal, but judging from all the complaints on here about your driving, IDK if you'd be good in a kart.

You'd need (at the minimum)
A mechanic or two to tune/repair the karts
A vehicle to transport them all. Idk if a Galaxy is big enough. I'd personally rent a Transit or something for it. Or maybe a pickup truck?
Enough money for entry fees/track days/parts
LOTS of spare parts. Most likely you'll crash/be taken out in somebody else's incident
A healthy dose of luck
Good vision
Fast reflexes (so's you can avoid a wreck in front of ya)
A race suit/helmet/gloves/boots/spare clothes
Health insurance (Not really needed. Just in case you get injured)
PETROL (Thanks to whoever pointed this out)

DK

EDIT: As Nathan_French suggested, that's a list of what you may need

Have you tried calling tracks and asking about maybe testing your kart (assuming you've got one on it
Quote from Nathan_French_14 :Right, this is turning into spam and/or completely off topic. Can everyone just please STFU and either help harjun with info about where he can find a kart or not post at all.

I know he can be abit of an idiot sometimes, but if we keep on posting on here with nothing that helps his original questions, were just as bad as him....

OK...seriously then, here is a link for some roto-whatever engines for under £200...and just the right sort of power levels for a future kart champion!

It doesn't but when you log in to the forums with the same details as on lfs.net the "join date" is the date on which you registered on lfs.net, not the date on which you registered on the forums.

you know i didn't laugh at that if you were trying to be funny....

just tell me yes or no...forget all other stuff like petrol etc. will i be able to buy a competitive kart for £1000...
But you need the "other stuff like petrol"
Short answer: No

Long answer: Depends what class and what condition. For example, you could buy a kart for £400 that is a wreck, and needs £800 worth of repairs, for instance. I'm no expert in classes, but I remember from reading Autosport that the Jr TKM class is strong

Read the posts and you'll find your answer.

You just keep ignoring everyone hoping to hear what you want, rather than accept the facts. You started off at £400, now suddenly you've found a £1000. You’re going to need probably at least £2000 to get started and that’s assuming you can find a way of transporting it.

That’s still no where near a competitive budget though, a club budget at best.

I agree Kieran, lots of posts have virtually told him exactly the same thing, yet he persists in ignoring them because they are not what he wants to hear...that's why I (and a few others, I expect) are taking the proverbial..
Hmm.... I have a feeling the mods are enjoying this.

I'm curious to know to why this thread hasn't been closed yet

Very good question! I was just about to write a lengthy post about how an internet forum is not gonna teach a 13-year-old insight into life and how it works, and that it's his parents responsibility to do that, and why so many people think it's theirs ... blahblahblah

But Leprekaun summed it up, basically. This is going nowhere.

It's the only thread I'm subscribed too, where I never posted before and just know there is something new to read every 5 minutes

Nothing has gotten out of hand, nor has the OP requested it. Going round in circles it may be but, although some comments are pushing it a little, no one is being outright abusive.

Plus it's good reading. Another forum classic in the making.

So you either lied in your profile or you're lying now. Or you're just damn stupid.

Well then, which is it?

You mean "which are they" cause there's NO way it's just ONE...

I've been known to say "I'm 18" to shop assistants before when buying alcohol, then think about a second later... "oh wait... I'm 19"

oh and by the way... this thread = priceless.

I agree with The General Lee and Keiran and Bladey too
OK

There is no point speaking about a 'competitive' package. In rotax a 'competitive' engine can be worth £10,000, and you won't be competitive as a driver for at least a year of racing.

What you need is a nice clean package that will stay reliable as you do you testing, ARKS test, and novice races. I wouldn't spend less that £1000. That's pretty much your base budget for a kart in Jr Rotax.

I speak to people everyday who are new to karting, and don't make the mistake of underestimating cost.

As I said.... don't buy anything yet! Go to the Rye House club race at the beginning of next month. Do that first and PM me and I can help you from there.

BTW If you find a Rotax MAX engine going cheap it may be because the seal has been broken, and it's illegal for race usage. If that is the case you will have to have the motor re sealed which WILL COST

I can't stress enough that you go to a HKC (Hoddesdon Kart Club) race meeting at the beginning of next month.

And research the class as well as a MAX FR125 in senior form will need to be changed back to a junior. Again ADDED COST.

So research, research, reserch, go to some club races... then think about buying!
Intrepid's advice is the best I've read in this thread, the same line of thinking is true for R/C racing - turn up at your local track, ask around, find out what works there and whats for sale, and take it from there. You can't just ask away on here till you get the answer your hoping for, because its not going to happen. No you will not be competitive for £1000, I don't know a massive amount about karting, but as pointed out by so many here, there's a lot more costs to racing than just the upfront purchase.

And on the topic of funding..best advice I can offer you, go get a paper route or two. Thats what I did at your age, and it gave me a few quid to do what I wanted to do. There's plenty of ways to make money at your age so you don't have to leech off your parents bank. Money does not come easy, all this money your dads provided you that you seemingly waste on stuff that holds only a passing interest..you'll understand the value of it once your old enough to work. This month I've been putting in 60+ hour weeks at work so I have the spare dosh to buy a couple of things I want. You expect your dad to do this to fund you?
Hats off to Intrepid for the very helpful advice
For a change .
i'm now doing indoor-karting over 8yrs, great fun but doesn't makes me wanna go drive outdoor(competition), i do have my own 4stroker (Honda 160cc, yes old one, but not pretty standard as far as i remember). I've competed in several indoor competitions and that also wasn't cheap. Last one we did (4 persons) cost 1000€ for one team. Allot of races and prizes to win but that proves that karting in general isnt cheap. I payed most of my equipment exept my shoes and socks . I love the sport as doing as a hobby, and feels good to me. Until you start working (will be very long till then) u'll know the value of money. So before u start asking another material thing of ur dad's money, think first and do some gaming on ur comp

and btw i've u wanna drive outdoor comp. u need to know u need certified racing suit and a good helmet wich arent cheap
harjun makes me feel sick, the lack of respect you show, not just towards money, but, you dont show any respect towards yourself. You lie out of your ass, are you trying to hide something? be true to yourself and keep your word as it is the only thing you can actually keep in life.
