Chance of a new computer :D
I got bored, and decided to "put together" a PC on Newegg, no intention of purchasing. Little did I know, the Newegg preferred account thing that allows you to go a year without making a payment just MIGHT help me talk my mom into buying it.

Grand Total: $1,186.00

Hopefully I can get my hands on it, and feel free to make any suggestions. I do not want suggestions that go much higher though
A year without payment might be a wise idea for you too. $1186 now might be about $4000 by that time

I'd go for a better PSU and an 8800GT.

It says the 8800GTS needs a 400W power supply. Is there something other than wattage I should be paying close attention to in a power supply?
i'd go for the 8800GT, and the Corsair 450WVX or 520W Modular, i would also get the OCZ Platinum 2Gb RAM kit..otherwise quite nice build

Make sure when researching the power supply, what the actual rated wattage is for CONTINUOUS running. A lot of times, manufacturers will state the PEAK wattage, which is sometimes significantly higher than what the PSU could run at continuously. Also, try not to get a dual-rail model. Go for a single rail if you can.

Really, just make sure you get a KNOWN brand. For a PSU that is particularly important. That's the ONE thing that you really want to know is built properly.

yes, make sure you don't go and skimp on the PSU, that's the main thing

I find the Corsair's a bit too expensive for my liking.

well, the Corsair's are very expensive, £50, because they are immense, very tidy, lovely colour, VERY VERY powerful for the Good gaming rig, 8800GTS SLI ETC...thats why, i would rather have a E2180 with Corsair 520W, than a Quad Q6600 with some extra value 600W one...

If you are going to get Q6600, why should you get some crap PSU? and GAMING PC's does not consist of E21xx-s! What's the point of getting all good parts, but processor (or ram, vid card, psu) is sh*t?
An E2180 can be overclocked easily .

lol, well my computer consists of a "E21xx-s!", and happily runs LFS at over 200fps, thus me calling is a Gaming PC, so please.....

Wow, just imagine an E6750 and an 8000GTS! (also from many reviews I read, If you have a case with good airflow, you can overclock to 3.2 GHz on stock cooling!)

yes, thATS ME, on stock cooling i've got 3.2Ghz at 1.5Volts at load temperatures of 62 Celcius, which slowly creep upto around 65...i know thats a bit extreme, but my CPU is very rarely at 100%, only at around...%50 on 1 core, so thats around 25% for LFS

Sounds like a good idea but wouldn't the interest go sky high?
If the 12 months deferral period is interest free, and you are sure you can pay up in time, by all means go for it.
If not, avoid like the plague!
Looks like the new rig is mine
But, I have to wait until Christmas to put it together.
