At least you'll make it easy for him!

Not sure why you'd say that with such enthusiasm... illepall

But you're right. Get the poor dog put down.
I agree with Kev. If I were you, Jimaxx, I'd have him put down .

A few months ago my hamster Ludwig died. Shit happens mate, I know how you feel

Its a tough call. Pets are part of the family and its harsh at any time like that. I know, I risked myself for a pet recently when one of my dogs was attacked but a group of pig hunting dogs and I dived in to rip them off and back them down.

If you pet has quality of life then keep them happy and let them enjoy life. When they reach a state where their life is pain and distress with no chance to come right its time to put them down. You will know when, their face and way they act will let you know.

ThereThere is a short 2 page peice by an NZ writer who describes how he held one of his dogs while it is put down. There are not many things that reduce me to tears but I have seen hard cases reduced to tears by the story.

It will not be an easy call for you and you will feel like crap after but as long as you know its the right time it will help.
My dog is 12 now, she is part German Shepherd, and as such has 'inherited' the weak pelvis that the breed suffers from.
She is still fairly active, but some mornings I can tell she struggles to get going...but then, once moving, she is fine.
I dread the day when we have to eventually say goodbye, she is more than part of the family.
If ever my wife and dog went missing, the notice I would post would definitely read " Wife and dog missing: Reward for the safe return of the dog"
Do what is best for the dog, please dont let him suffer unnecessarily.
There was a post by Kiss Me back in February when he lost his dog, and No Quarter posted this...

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

not the right time to say, but it made me laugh

btw: i know how u feel, my dog past away this year, face it, life can be a bitch...
I feel for you - about 10 years back, my buddy, Woodie the family collie died at age 16, which was a pretty terrible experience seeing him sort of melt away before having to witness putting him down and just 3 weeks ago another buddy, Archie, a 17 year old cat, had to go. We couldn't and wouldn't put him down since he was pretty much together upstairs and was still fighting it, so we just played nursing home with him (had to hold his tail up for him to not pee all over it, the most embarrassing thing ever for a cat) - he died in his sleep.

Is the liver problem kalazar? If so, there is therapy of rather dubious results - a friend's dobbie had that and the shots for the therapy ended up giving the dog some form of leuchemia which was pretty much worse off... but then again another pal's short-haired hunting dog that got it pulled out just fine.
Well hes been taken to the vets again today and there keeping him in for more liver tests his blood says theres something wrong they just dont know what.

Im just hoping he comes out better.

This morning after his injection yesterday he was nice and lively and dosnt apear to be any pain whatsoever but we'll see

Thanks for all your support
my thoughts are with you mate.
i know how hard it is to either lose your "pet" ( a loose term, friend or pal is better)......i recently lost mine after 13 happy years.

keep your chin up.
