i think if you concentrate too much you'll just end up over doing it mentally. Keep calm, always be aware of your position in traffic, and most important of all don't get into a habbit of driving like a pansy, mess about with your braking points as the tyres get warm and try to get into apex's tighter...just keep reminding yourself to shake it up a bit...you know:rally_dri:fence3d:
Quote from Goop :good post NIKI I've got a league race on tonite; I'll try some of those things.

I tried shift-f'ing earlier, not for me I don't think. I like to see my tyres and what shade of red they are, and how much grass is on each one. I just need to be strong and not look at split times in the middle of high-speed sweepers and chicanes

hehe, shift+F4 is not good at all. I set F9 and F10 to my wheel with some program so i can on off those things. I dont use it all the time, just on straight Well F11 and F12 are v useful too, but i use them with keyboard cuz i dont have so many free buttons on wheel

gl with your league tonight

Thanks, got 4th in the end, not too bad.

I usually have a really strong coffee before a league race. It helped me in qualifying tonight, but in the race I was a bit shaky.... and I can probably rule out sleep for a day or two as well I guess I need to balance the stimulants and the depressants a little better next time, hehe.
Quote from mrodgers :Don't do hour long weekday evening league races after working 10-12 hours. I hadn't league raced for over a year and ran in the LOTA GTR league recently. Since we are spread out through 3 time zones, it was a late race for me. I could manage half way through, but then was too tired that the concentration fell apart.

As someone said already, race the track, not the opponents. Staring at the guy in front of you is what is called "target fixation." Don't stare at the guy in front, or concentrate on the guy in your mirror. Keep focused up ahead of the track and just keep aware of the other drivers. Get into a rhythm to where you are hitting your marks every time and the laps will flow smoothly.

I agree with the comment, forget about the last mistake. Recover and forget it and focus on what's ahead.

It's just the level of tiredness that gets me. Found out it's impossible for me to run in a league race during the week. It's just too late and I'm too tired. Half way through, I start loosing focus and start thinking about the end and bedtime instead of the race.

i had the same problem, so now on race days when i get home from work i go right to sleep for an hour or so to rest up for the race.

I'm completely the opposite. Not that I've played LFS online for ages, but before playing Counterstrike I usually have a pint, which just slows everything down to the right level for me. It all starts to go downhill when more and more is drunk between games lol.

Probably pretty bad advice to be honest but meh

Pot is awesome for concentration too :shhh: or so I've heard.

Probably not a good idea in league-racing though :tired:

i've actually set some PBs after a couple beers. i feel like i am less likely to lift of the gas when i have a few in me, which leads to some quick times as long as i can hold onto it. after 2-3 though, you're right as its all downhill from there.

like goop said though, probably not a good idea for league races.
Maintain focus by not focusing on anything.

Practice racing with peripheral vision. Staring at a monitor encourages you to depend on foveal vision (the form we use for reading or examining close detail). This is sometimes known as 'hunter's' vision which may sound cool and competitive, but actually encourages tension in the face, neck, shoulders etc and induces fatigue.

Move your head to look rather than your eyes.

A bigger monitor is obviously a huge advantage here....

But don't close out the room you are in. Look away from the monitor every now and then; refocus your eyes on something in the distance (the real distance, not the virtual distance...)

i seem to loose concentration if i concentrate, my concentration slowly fades, then i "wake up" as it were when i hear the LFSW beep or something else, realise im 10 laps further into the race and just set a pb, whilst looking out the window
I tend to drive faster when chasing people down . I guess you can call it a hunger. i have different mind sets depending on what type of race I'm in too.

Endurance races: I do loads of laps before it so i get a good "natural" rhythm on the combo then when i need to push I've got that extra half second in my pocket from the hot lapping.

Sprint races: I do lots of laps again but i concentrate more on setting fast laps. Because you also overtake a lot more, depending on where you qualify however, I tend to do a lot of practice with other people online.

I'm not really any good at setting my own pace but if I'm chasing someone down i have an increased focus and rarely let them go, Quite the opposite to most people who tend to loose focus when following a car.
Braking point

Turn in point

Apex

Throttle on

Track out

That's it. Try not to talk to yourself. Whoever you are, you are probably very boring to talk to so don't bore yourself with your inner monologue.
If I have a decent day, nothing kills my concentration and I seem to require less of it to be steady.

However, my GF/fiance has fudged up more then one race for me with her touchy/feely/kissing while I race stuff.

While she's correct that it's just a SIM, it's bloddy LFS woman!
Let the man be. :P

No, never during league races but I have done pb's hotlapping for leagues stoned :shhh:

That is also my problem, my wife especially enjoys sticking her head in front of the screen when I spend more than 1 hour on LFS. No leagues for me but pickup races using only mouse while having a wife and kids are still better than league races with wheel and no more wife and kids
Only a game but a very good one, the only one I play regularly since teenage geekness.
I have bad consentration. After some times I just do silly misstakes, like forgetting the brake points lap after lap, or touches the damned grass and spins all the time. Westhill after some hours playing is a nightmare!
I'm a still a bad racer after almost a year of LFS (was better, but than I got my DFP) I'm better when being followed or following a fast guy, get new pb's and stuff.

Try downloading the WR replays and look on their lines, where they brake and accelerate and such, that probally will speed you up some
And it`s the same way for me, by following one of these aliens I seem to be pretty much faster than usually.
Heh, you really are a helpful bunch. I'm looking forward to going out there and just enjoying the races, rather than looking at my splits everytime. All the advice is certain to significantly improve my racing skills.
