I always thought that superglue was found by accident whilst trying to find something to make clear gunsights for planes in WW1

After consulting with some mates who are training to become doctors (hence why from now on, I'm staying as healthy as I can) they tend to use glue in situation were it would be to difficult to stitch, i.e. the chin, elbow etc etc.
Also it it tends to be more safer as it keeps the cut cleaner, and provides a completely waterproof seal.
However it does not mean that you should us the superglue in the house next time you get a cut, the glue used by the doctors is produced to a higher standard than those used to stick two bits of modeling kit together (or indeed my little cousins fingers, long story) i.e there is less impurities in the one used by the docs, than by the ones used at homes.

the real question here is Why were you ice skating?

. I'm talking the bashing into the boards planting your opponent's face into the rails, aka, George Laraque style ...... and rollerblading is far different than ice skating. I can't rollerblade or rollerskate for my life. Actually, it's been probably 20 years since I've played hockey, so I probably couldn't ice skate for my life anymore either.
Speaking of hockey, why is it that it seems no one outside the US or Canada cares for hockey, yet of the 90% NHL players that are not from the US, 45% are from European countries?
I cut my head open a couple of years ago (was a great start to New Year's Eve), I thought it would be a stitch job but they used scalp glue on me. I'm assuming it's somewhat similar to superglue.
I had my head super glued together about 14-15 years ago after I fell downstairs and split my head open. It is a quicker option for the hospital as it takes a matter of seconds rather then a suture which can take minutes. So they can see more people in a day as such reach their targets.
Also as far as super glue goes in wars and medical use, it was created in WWII to make plastic gun sight lenses, and was used medically in Vietnam as they didn't have the greatest access to medics and found that using glue would seal a wound long enough to get them back to a hospital.

I had my arm superglued back on when I lost it in a threshing machine. And I had my eyes superglued back in after a vulture pecked them out. It's totally safe.
And I once superglued a giant pack of minced meat back into a cow.

Yerr arrr yerr, hockey! Some do, but by the amount of people they are in the minority because most of the silly old central European countries with long sporting history are rubbish in it....and play foosball.
What's more confusing is how the heck does the UK have Hockey leagues, and more crazily, how the heck did GB win a bloody Gold in the olympics in hockey like... 70 years ago?!

Hockey is a rich man's sport, so isn't very popular as you can only play it if you go to a rink, unlike other countries where you get frozen lakes to play on. Because of this and most Brits being tight fisted wankers we'll pick something like Soccer as all you need is to jackets and a ball to play.
Hockey, not ice hockey. We've got fields - less of them than we used to have but we still have some fields dotted around inbetween the supermarkets and the american air bases. We've certainly got more fields than we have ice rinks, I'm pretty sure of that.
No Kev, I'm talking Ice Hockey, although nobody gives 2 shits about your leagues, it's still funny that you even play the sport.
I didn't know we had an ice hockey league. We're a bit too busy having one of the best football leagues in the world to notice ice hockey really. We tend to leave that to the americans and canadians who prefer to play sports that nobody else plays and then declare themselves world champions.

Funny story about baseball though, the first time America took part in a World Series that involved the rest of the world, they lost to China and never played with the rest of the world again.
Mens Hockey is for wimps.....now Shinty is a real mans game.
No padding for the goalies, just a pair of jeans. Sticks flying everywear and thats just in the crowd, and played only in Scotland finest weather. A gale force 7 wind, with a bit of rain/sleat thrown in for good measures.
