Wait wait wait... Guiness, Carlsberg and Bud are all owned by the same company? I hope I'm just reading that wrong. If Bud and Guiness are part of the same entity I will stop drinking Guiness, full stop.
I refuse to associate myself with that knat's piss they call Budweiser. I'm still trying to get over the horror that is the Molson/Coors merger.
I thought Budweiser was originally Czech? Madman keeps going on about how Czech bud is actually nice. Ultimately I have got nearly 30 cans of Guinness in the fridge and I'm going to enjoy them whatever the news, at my own leisure.
What saddens me the most is that the original czech Budweiser is one of the best beers in the world, but somehow, the americans made every beer taste like a mix of piss and soda... which doesn't bother them at all. Well, my advice: drink imported beer from euope instead of american brews. You won't regret ist.
Yep, the only thing that will stop me drinking Guinness is if it starts tasting like Knats Piss, which will never happen
EDIT FOR ColeusRattus: I hate lager, with a passion, it tastes goddam aweful. But some of the more, shall we say exotic lagers that i've tried, actually taste ok.
Must be something cultural... at least, we can agree that american beers, at least the ones from suspiciously successful breweries, like Bud and Miller, don't have much to do with what a beer should be.
There are two Budweiser's on the market. There is the original Czech Budweiser or as we call it Budějovický Budvar and then you have the American Budwesier. There has been an on going disagreement between the Czech and American companies arguing over the name rights. You can find a few articles on the net. Czech Budweiser in the United states is called Czechvar but in Europe it is still Budweiser. You can find it on Tesco. I would agree that the American Budwesier is a can off piss if you compare it to the Czech version.. but i would say that wouldn't I hehe
Guinness is not made by the same people who make Budweiser or vise-versa. Guinness is owned by Diagio who are also a distributor for many of the beers sold in Ireland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagio#Brands
It's way too cliché, but the best pint of Guinness I ever drank was at the St James Gate brewery visitors' centre. The next best was in the hotel I was staying at, and I'd otherwise conclude that Guinness simply doesn't travel well at all. Except that the 3rd best pint I ever drank was down the road from the Motorola offices in Schaumburg, outside Chicago. So the only conclusion I can draw is that Guinness hates Britain.
The bottled Guiness imported from Nigeria is really good... This topic has been covered before... Not sure if I was over-estimating it then, but the stuff being sold at my offie seems to have gone down from 8% to 7.5%...
There's even a date on the bottom of the can here.
See above!
Mm, Guinness... I have a full set of proper glasses that hold one precise pint, with the Guinness logo etc (foam to the brim) and a toque, which is in one of my old avatars.
Oh by all gods, no! Heineken is a petty excuse for a beer, only marginally better than the big american brands.
It is drinkable, but that is due to the mass market approach of it: Let's produce something that noone dislikes instead of something that some poeple like, while others won't. Thus, while drinkable, it tastes dull.
