my old computer problem...
i am hearing clicking by the hard drive area and the computer stays on for about 3 mins but then it tries to turn off but it wont hmm.. need some help please..
Well, we're going to need a bit more info. Does the clicking start as soon as you turn the PC on? Or does it suddenly start clicking and then 3 minutes later, the thing shuts down? What kind of clicking noise is it making? What kind of hard drive do you have, and how old is it? Maybe what the rest of the PC is? Also, it just acts as if you told it to shut down? Where does it get stuck shutting down? The more you tell us, the better we can diagnose the issue...

...sorry, I just watched two House episodes in a row
Lol, that's awesome. Perfect.

I'm by no means an expert on computer noises, but I do have an old Dell Laptop with a dying hard drive, and I'd be willing to bet that that's what's going on with yours. If I were you, just to be safe, I'd back up your important documents before something REALLY goes awry.
i have all my important documents on my new computer so how much do good hard drives cost these days?
Most people go for something in the range of a 320 Gb drive. I've got four Seagate 320 Gb drives and they all work fine. Will set you back about $90 with shipping. Here's a link. You generally won't find hard drives cheaper than this anywhere else.

If you want something other than that, here is a good starting point, and you can narrow down your options using the choices on the left. I do suggest the Seagate drives though, they're great.
hmm where is the hard drive in my pic?
Bottom right... where you labeled it RAM, lol. (The RAM is actually probably somewhere under that mess of wires in the middle.) The hard drive is about an inch thick, and has the big, flat gray cable connected to it (called an IDE cable) and also that white-ended plug with the different colored wires coming out of it (a molex connector.) The IDE cable is through which data is transferred and the molex provides power to the hard drive. The molex can sometimes be hard to pull out, so you just gotta yank it by the wires sometimes.
ok i see now thank u for the help and i probably will get a new hard drive by :wmann3: but for now i haft to deal with this thing
Glad to be of help
