South City (and stuff!)
I've just got to say that Eric has done a fantastic job on the new stuff, especially South City. The Formula BMW looks great, the changes made to Blackwood give it that little bit of rustic 'clubman' charm and a little more difficulty, and the changes to South City are.. just wow.

South City has near always been my favorite location in LFS because of it's difficulty and sense of speed (no doubt due to having more objects closer to the track, including the armcos). Now it is also the prettiest location in LFS. The changes to the barriers made it more realistic, the new greenery, the wonderful new/updated buildings... It looks absolute astounding.

GREAT work Eric, GREAT work.
I've always loathed that bloody chicane at SO, but now I approach it without fear and without nearly as much braking as I used to It's a lot safer and a lot more fun and the track improvements (graphics and layout-wise, including those at Blackwood - haven't had time to check out the others) are fantastic.

Great work Eric

I have to agree. In fact, I'll just quote myself from the test patch thread as this is a more fitting place for that post:
Quote from wien :Wow. The new South City looks absolutely gorgeous. So much subtle detail. Love the shadows too even though they are rather simplistic technically. They add so much depth to the scene now that the poly-count has gone up. A little bit disappointed Chicane Route didn't have a new section in it, but that is easily forgiven. Looked like there were the beginnings of a new track section off the side of the highway so maybe for S2 final?

I also enjoy the changes to Blackwood. Since it's narrower it has a more club-racingy feel to it now and that really fits the surrounding scenery.

Big thumbs up all around.

I love the graphic changes, but I think the tracks may be a bit too forgiving, now. :hide:
I bet Scavier were all having a good laugh when we thought the South City Chicane route was off track on the left after the turn under the freeway!
I was somewhat under the impression that there would be more in the way of changes to Blackwood, a line from the preview video said something like "changes to blackwood.. make things more exciting for the lesser powered cars" (not a quote, just what I remember reading).

The only changes I see to the layout are the curbs at the 1st chicane, the reduction in the grasscrete at the end of the main straight, and a few other little bits.

I guess I was expecting some kind of "feature" on the back straight, I cant find the text now, within the 1374 posts within the video thread, but, alas slightly dissapointed with blackwood.

South City on the otherhand, im amazed at how good that looks now, of course, now I would like all the tracks to look like that. It is safe to say that since trying x30, ive not raced anywhere else but blackwood and South City!

I was having more of a laugh, seeing it's a layout I suggested 18 months ago, and finally get to drive it

I'm sorry? The entire track is now narrower and every corner is as a result sharper. Some corners are also laid out very differently. The changes aren't huge but they're enough to change the character of the track completely.
I'm really glad SO was updated, as it looks awsome, and the bumps in the road give a much more realistic feeling to the track. This patch has to silence the Eric's critics out there!

Not to overlook the upcoming patch, but I really hope the (pre-historic) Fern Bay is next in line for an update. I mean, comparing it to SO now, they look like they're from two different games!
I tell you guys what though, BL looks way more professional and up to the line now with actual grass popping up from cracks, and some taller grass off to the sides etc.

As for the first turn as Scawen was talking about, incase you didn't notice, the distance I believe from the apex of T1 to the apex of T2 has drastically increased, giving more time for cars to balance out before they enter the chicane at a faster pace.

However I don't understand why he said specifically the slower cars? We all know it would have an effect on the higher end vehicles too.

South City however...
omg.

I think that refers mostly to most corners being sharper and the track being narrower. It makes it much more interesting to drive, especially for slower cars.

some parts are not forgiving because of bumps.
South City is just sooooooo beautiful - the most beautiful track in LFS.
And the Chicane Route is fantastic.

/me in love

I thought he was also refering that most cars can take that chicane at nearly full throtle (if not at full throtle) before, but now since they're entering it at a higher speed and a tighter radius, some lifting and braking might be needed~?
That too. Makes the course more challenging, and thusly, more interesting.
I love the new SO.
The details have drastically improved, and the chicane looks much better Only thing I don`t like is that I have lost like 20-30 FPS ;(
South City looks great now and i love the new track
Ive lost a lot of FPS too but i dont care since im waiting for a new gfx card and mobo :P
Good job there eric!
yep south city looks awesome, the first time i left pits on the new chicane track i was really amazed on how it looks, and about the fps, i dont care too getting new pc for christmas

That said, they seem to have been doing a lot more to the track down there than just trackside scenery would suggest. Maybe in a few more patches' time?

We don`t know if he might surprise us with something more new to SO in a not too far future from now
Because some of the roads and paths not used is really high quality stuff, and I canot see why there shouldn`t be a config out of it in the future
If you look though, it looks a whole lot more developed, there's the typical SO Sprint start area/pit complex, there's red/white barriers marking off a track, and if you set the track to SO4, you can drive quite a bit of the barriered section (SO6 has lots more holes).
