Asus P5N-E, [sound problems solved] (And overclocking troubles)
I cannot configure the sound on my P5N-E mobo. I installed the drivers, but it didn't do anything. I tried un-installing the windows audio driver that is default, but it keeps coming back. This is pretty frustrating. Also, I am unable to overclock my processor for some reason.

EDIT: I cannot change the multiplier in the bios. I can change the FSB though. I overclocked the FSB to 850 in the bios, and left the multiplier at 10x in the bios. But, everest reports the FSB as being 265MHz, and the multiplier at 8x. For some reason the bios is giving me the wrong values. I've got good pqi memory, the kind with the heatsink. 4x1GB. I'm sure it can handle an overclock from 800MHz to 850MHz.

Are you getting no sound at all?

Most motherboards have a bunch of pins (sorry that’s really not technical at all, lol) to plug in an audio connector, normally for the front panel audio jack. On my motherboard if I don't plug the front panel connector in there is no sound at all. If I don't want to plug the front panel connector in I need to use some jumpers instead to enable the sound from the rear jacks.

And the multiplier being locked is common, nothing much you can really do about that, well there are things but they are not for the faint hearted.

On the multiplier thing - it SHOULD let you drop it from 10-6 iirc.

Disable C1E and SpeedStep in the BIOS and the multiplier should stay the same as what you set it too.
As for the sound, I installed the drivers from the CD, but nothing happens. The instructions with the motherboard say to uninstall the "microsoft UAA bus driver for High Definition Audio" before installing the drivers for the integrated sound. But, I cannot remove the microsoft driver. I go to uninstall in the Device Manager, but it keeps coming back! I tried deleting the microsoft UAA registry key, but it didn't work. This is so frustrating. Is there any way to make it so that it NEVER automatically installs drivers?

EDIT: Problem solved. I just right clicked on the driver, went to re-install, had windows search the CD, and installed the drivers. Now I have sound! Time to install DFP drivers...

EDIT2: As for the overclocking, I am just running the memory at 900MHz DDR, and the mem:fsb ratio is 2:1. So, the FSB comes out to be 250MHz. I finally figured out how all these frequencies work. I'll just leave the multiplier at 10, and then change the memory freqency. I could change the mem:fsb ratio to 1:1, and then change the multipler to 6, since the mutliplier only lets me go from 6-10. That would be 2.4GHz (with memory at 800MHz DDR). I am using a crappy power supply, because the one I got doesn't have the p4 power plug. However, I made an adaptor by soldering the two connectors. I had a molex splitter that came with my video card so I soldered the two 12V wires together, and the two grounds next to the 12V wires together. Then I put electrical tape around all of the places where I soldered. I just put electrical tape around the 5V wires and grounds, making sure that none of them touched. It should work, I doubt i'll fry my motherboard.
