Given the fact there were about 5 cars starting from the pitlane in a 24 hour race I'd say several teams were having trouble

I can't remember the exact reasons for the engine trouble but my guess was the real issue wasn't the bio-diesel conversion but trying to convert a well used road engine for racing rather than building a race engine from scratch. The guy I did some work experience with builds M3s (both with the straight 6s and M5 V8s) and expects the cars to do 24 hours of hard driving without a mechanical failure or any need to do a complete rebuild afterwards, though I think it's fair to say he is extremely good at the dark art of making things last, just don't ask a Mr Chapman to build your endurance racing car (it'll likely fall apart and kill you on the slowing down lap)
