I'd like to have the advice of the "pro's". How far should i go with the oc'ing, without getting it to hot. Atm the standards are 560Mhz for the CoreClock and 850Mhz for the memory clock.
Exactly as Jakg said as far as your card will go in your setup. I know nothing about overclocking but even I realise that no card will ever be identical and each computer has a different case and different things within that case all which affect airflow and cooling and make a difference, however small, to overclocking potential.
Iv got my 8800gts 320mb overclocked at 650 core, 1700 shade, 1900 mem. Very stable and i play games like crysis for hours on end with no problems and still good temps.
Each card varies with how far you can push it though.
i have an evga 8800gts 320mb superclocked. i have it volt modded and i run 740 core, 1700 shader and 2200mhz memory. core voltage is at 1.40v idle and 1.36-37v loaded and memory is at 2.05v. im still testing voltages and clocks since i just modded it today. i will uplaod some pics in a few so you guys can see my rig. its also water cooled.
i get like 400fps in lfs. i get like 75 in cod4 with everything maxed. i get like 25-30 in crysis on high and about 18-20 on very high. its doing a great job. will be replaced in the near future for the 8800gt. its a great card though i have no problems with it at all. still not done with it yet so the clocks are not my final 24/7 clocks.
edit: notice my memory is natedog special in the cpuz screen.
i know its dirty. my 3dmark06 is 13,1xx and my 3dmark05 is 21xxx. so not to bad but my asus 8800gt will be here tomorrow for sure its on its way. im just using a proview 17" lcd i bought from walmart awhile ago. i will eventually get a 22" widescreen but funds are not allowing that right now so i have to wait.
edit: LOL notice my speeding ticket lol. was doing 67 in a 55 and he wrote my for 5 over. lol still cost money and points LFS is in my blood lol i dont know how to do speed limit whats that
heres my new asus 8800gt 512mb and volt modded already of corse. runnin core 834, shader 2000, and memory 2000. core volts are 1.30v idle and 1.36v loaded. heres my new 3dmark06 so far. temps are nice nothin over 56c yet. water cooled and fan blowing on it.
Cool, now it really shows difference between 8800GTS 320MB and 8800GT. I get 9850 points on 3dmark 06, but for same price as 8800GTS, you can get GT and also get whopping 2500+ or so points more!
yes hyper 48 on cpu and water cooling on the 8800gt. my crappy radiator would not be able to handle that much of a load its out of a broken water cooling unit. hopefully i get new rad soon and that would help out temps big time. im gonna try a tec setup hopefully today or tomorrow since i have another block in my loop im gonna put it to use. water cooling needed for runnin 1.3 volts or higher on the core. need to keep the heat down so i get no artifacts. its runnin good oced like hell lol. will keep you updated on clocks and scores. the memory is stayin right were its at since 8800gt's have a memory interface problem on the board(pcb) itself and cant handle more then 1000mhz(2000 memory). it can go up that high and higher it just eventually will kill your card so they say. so im gonna kepp it on the safe side since its happened a lot so far.
temps are: cpu e6550 at 3.5ghz(500fsb) idle =40c and load =60c videocard 1.3 volts loaded and 1.28 idle. clocks core 840/ shader 1980/ memory 1900. temps are 39c and loaded is 52-55c depending on ambient temps.
edit: heres something else for you guys to look at. there is a big difference from the 8800gts 320 to the 8800gt 512 cards. look at the pixel fillrate, texture fillrate, the bus width and the bandwidth. the gts has more over the gt. but the gts 320 has only 96 shaders compared to the gt witch has 112 shaders. when i first ran 3dmark06 my gts 320mb won but it was my fully modded gts 320 vs. my stock gt. then i upped clocks a little bit and had close to a tie between the two. then i modded my vgpu(core) and i went from stock 3dmark of 13000 to 14000 just from clocks alone. i think the gts 320 is very good card and can clock like mad. but the 8800gt has and edge over it but for me it dont seem like much but i havent tested it a lot yet so i dont know if i can up scores anymore than they are or not. we will see. and im gonna be preparing for another dry ice run soon dont know if the videocard is gonna go under cold or not. check out my cpu under dry ice. i think with higher oc on dry ice and 8800gt i will score nice.
