First LFS Movie- XF custom textures (Ralliart/HKS) 'machinima'
Hi all!

My first time on the forum, been using LFS for a couple of years so thought I'd put my first movie up for constructive criticism and feedback

The movie shows an XF GT with custom textures (I'm studying to become a texture artist, machnima is an interest of mine) pulling some 180s/reverse 180s and donuts in a car park. What's different about this movie? The entire replay was recorded from seven different angles in GameCam and edited to produce a multi-angle video.

Also, GameCam doesn't record sound so all sound FX were added from free sound clips of cars to fit the action- from tyre screeches to gear changes, everything lines up with the action.

I'm quite proud of it (but hope to add many improvements when I make another one- like ShiftF for starters lol) but the standard here on LFS.net is very high so comments on my work are appreciated- good and bad!

The video is just over a minute long and the versions here are the hi-res 640x480 WMV versions around 4 to 6Mb each- I have smaller and PSP-format versions too so ask if you want 'em

[download just sound fx no musi ... t want the engine sounds)]

[download with sound fx and hip ... (Twista- Like a 24")]

[download with sound fx and roc ... raits- Money For Nothing)]

Hmm, never used that host before... seems it does hang around but luckily not for more than 10s or so, and the download is a steady 50KB/s. I'd say try it again Kev but I'm kinda biased :P

I've never had the money for full LFS (thanks, full time college education) but I've got a bit spare now so buying S2 is definitely on my todo list
Got a bit bored of the high pitched squeaky tyre noises. Also, it's squashed, so all the cars are tall and thin. Finally, the MSN pop up notifier thing makes it look very amateury, and the overall resolution is very low.

However, it's an interesting concept to make a movie in that way, and I look forward to a few more in ther not so distant future.

Not bad TiJay. The engine sounds seem nicely matched and the skid screech is pretty good, although it would sound better with varied skid sounds.

Thanks guys

Yeah, I was thinking about the tyre sounds earlier and using more than one sound would have been much better

My display is 16:10 ratio bt as most people have 4:3 screens, I'll adjust it next time.

Your feedback has been really useful- I'll definitely make another one in future- and close MSN next time... lol

Anymore comments are welcome!
If you make a movie from a computer recording, I think you have to force it to have square pixels, then, no matter what display people use, it'll come out in the right format. I know this applies to things like Adobe Premiere, but I'm not at all sure about the software you use.

Damn, I cannot download any version of that movie.
Why don't you upload all of them to LFS MOVIES PIT ?

Thanks, I use Windows Movie Maker 2 but I'm hoping to get my hands on Premiere soon... depends how things go.

I uploaded them to storeandserve because I needed a host quick and my FTP client doesn't like me (could being behind a wireless router be a problem...). SAS do suck- even I'm getting timeouts with their pages now- so I'll certainly find an alternate host for next time.
