Yes, a very egomaniacal thread title, but I feel I deserve it. I turn 16 here in about 6 hours, but in crazed foreign lands, I've already done the deed. As last weekend, I have another weekend with 2 partys, hopefully this time I won't get any concussions due to boobs or collarbones.

Then Monday, I'm going into the Driving place, to take the test to get my "L" designation, which is the first step for me to drive, which I hold for a year, then take another test, which I get an "N", then I get to drive alone for 2 years, before getting my full, Class 5 (I think) License.

Congrats, and just interested, what can you actually do when your get your L 'designation'? Is it basically just the same as our provisional, where you can drive only if someone over 21 and holding a full drivers license is in the car?

The restrictions are under L, you must have a direct family member, who holds a valid Class 5 or better licence, and is over 18 (which would be impossible to be under 18 as of the new rules). Also, on top of that, you can only drive from 6:00 AM til 3:00 AM, to prevent against idiotic teens driving at early hours, while possibly drunk. Once you get an N licence, you still have the same time restrictions, but you're allowed to have 2 passengers in the car with you.

Over here we also have the L licence, but there are different types. If you learn to drive with your parents or someone else older than I don't know and holder of a licence, you always need that person with you and you can't drive alone, and there can be no-one else in the car.
If you go to drivingschool and take 20 one-hour lessons you are allowed to drive alone or have one passenger who has to have a licence for 6 years or so.

I did the last one, otherwise you can't practice when other people aren't available.
