Should I buy LFS ?
Hi !
A friend told me that LFS is a nice game for a guy like me, who is a race fanatic and who is very interestet in cars.
At this time I play GTR, und make a V8STAR addon for the game. My friend also told me, that LFS is as good as GTR, well I hope so. I wanna buy this game, but can I make new cars for the game ?! Okay okay, first drive the game trough than talk about a addon.
Can you guys give me some pro or contra arguments to buy / or not buy the game ?!

Thankz and greez from the eurospeedway lausitz !

P.S I´m sorry for my bad english, but be gentle, i´m german
Try the demo - if you like it, buy it.

At the moment you cannot add cars or tracks to LFS. This will come later in LFS's life.
The only noticable problems are low speed tyre grip issues (but you don't notice them at race speeds) and a little bug in the aerodynamics. Both will be fixed/reduced in the not too distant future, so don't let them put you off.

The other main downside is that you won't have a social life if you play LFS.
Of course you should!!

Well, in this forum we are a bit biased But LFS is worth the buy. It has accurate physics (and improving), decent graphics, 18 different cars, and a big active community supporting it, and there are lots of online leagues and competitions to participate.

So... stop reading, and go get your license You wont regret.

Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yes you should buy Live For Speed
If you just love cars in general, this is the package for you. Show me something else that accurately simulates to many types of cars (heavy/light/FWD/FWD/AWD/Passenger/Race etc). It's a much more DETAILED simluation than you will find anywhere else in terms of it's intricacies... The only thing you have to be comfortable with is the design process - IT'S NOT FINISHED yet, although it already has more polish than many finished products.

I love it, and the human aspect sets it apart from anything else also. The net code is unsurpassed.

If you like bells & whistles, you may want to look elsewhere - if you like pure, hardcore physics and a utilitarian approach things, LFS will consume your life rapidly.

That's very very important and many people have been turned off by the "crappy handling" of "the cars", while in reality it was just the crappy setups.

Also, if you come to a LFS forum, what answer do you expect?

... what?

I'd say play the demo to death, if you like it buy it. If you don't, buy it anyway

..maybe.. no proof, but its looking highly unlikely with all the 'advanced' physics work which.. would have to be 'dumbed down' alot to be able to add cars and be able to put in the way they handle with only a handfull of numbers
It depends how their 'car maker' system works. We know the CoG is calcualted from the 3D model, as Scawen said the change to see-through windows caused problems with it. Maybe they have a little probram into which they insert various numbers to emulate the car, and then fine-tuning sliders to balance them out.

It's all conjecture, we know nothing, but I'd like to think that if modding IS allowed in S3 there will be 'proper' tools available for it rather than fiddling with text files.

I totally agree. This is pretty incredible that the devs haven't made a proper default setups. I wouldn't even call those defaults as setups. This "issue" could be fixed so easily and what a difference it would make. IMO the demo isn't even representative (enough). These crappy default setups together with a little boring cars (and definately not wide enough selections to represent the whole scale of cars in full S2) and maybe a little boring arcadish-looking track is nothing like the full version. I really don't wonder how so many people don't like LFS once they've only tried the demo and got a bad first impression.
I don't see how anyone who likes driving cars could fail to see the potential of the game after playing the demo. If they don't like driving the demo I'd suggest they won't like the full thing either...

Eastsiderz, LFS probably doesn't shock you with goodness (sound being the major problem here) straight up like GTR, you can't really add much in the way of mods etc, but it provides a racing experience that others are unable to match, imho.

Because the demo is so far away from the full S2 experience and look. For example Blackwood isn't IMO(!) my opinion the best track in LFS and it's too much fantasy-looking. Combine it with 10 (and only 10 because of the player limit in the demo) other colourish cars with most likely crappy default setups sliding all over the track. Even if we forget the sound department for lots of people this first impression they get is nothing they would even call a simulation because of the arcadish image they get. These all little things affect the first impression. Getting used to the driving and noticing the greatness of it comes after the first impression. LFS demo just doesn't give that kind of "WOW!" feel that it should in the first 5 minutes.

With rather small steps the demo would so much more representative. Firstly making better default setups and then changing the car selection in the demo. Those 3 cars doesn't represent the wide selection of cars we have in the full version. For example replacing the XRG with car with slicks (GTR car or FOX) would make huge difference.

Even I wasn't caught with the S2 demo when I first tried it. Actually after drooling for the GTR screenshots on the official page I considered getting a license.

edit: Actually I just remembered that I have made a thread about this some time ago. http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=3179
In retrospect, I feel like I should've waited until S2 is finished before buying my S2 license.
Hey, thanks for this support ! 14 replys... unbeliveble... This is a f**** great community ! Now i know what to do, I buy the game. I like cars push to the limit, I want to see were is the end of physics. Maybe the demo is not as good as s2, but I want a game were I can drive with my hands and feets not with automatic shifting and such a shit... Like Toca Race Driver 2 or 3...

so we´ll see us soon online, on track !

greetz eastsiderz

Then this is indeed the game for you. You can feel everything the car does through the wheel (because the FF is actually based on the simulated forces acting on the front wheels).

See you on track soon!
now i know what to do, buy the game I´ve got a nice force wheel, with a shift-stick and pedals. i´ve got a mission

see ya

Well, wait a few weeks and you too will be jumping on top of anybody even remotely thinking about buying into our nice little community

I'll be interested to hear your comments once you've bought it. Come on back and tell us how you like it!

Judging from your comments about driving with your hands and feet, as stated above, you will love this.

The force feedback is unparalleled as far as information about what the front wheels are doing. There are no "effects" added, just forces from the vistual steering linkage - which you can even feel by altering your steering geometry in the car setup.
yes
you have to by this game this is a very good game.
Woohoo lots of new Canadians on here lately!!!
Canada, US, doesn't matter to me. As long as they're all in my timezone to get some more folks out there on the servers in US Eastern time zone . I have noticed quite a lot of new guys out there lately.
no no, we need more people on MOUNTAIN OR PACIFIC TIME, that's what we need..... hehe
Another thing I like about LFS is the fact that no matter what time of day or night I go online there's always a good race happening in a server with lots of players.
I fail to experience this phenomenon you speak of....
Ball Bearing Turbo, you need to jump back to demo like I have been lately. The other night there was 5 servers with connections in S2 (most connections was 6 at, you guessed it, Aston National/GTR) and 37 servers, most being full, in the demo.

ROFL, I am once again, a demo user illepall !

In my defense, I have a couple of guys at work I finally convinced to download the demo and am running with them. Now I have to convince them to buy a license.
