Volunteer Admin?
I have been racing on CTRA servers pretty much since it's inception & have hardly ever run into a CTRA admin whilst racing. I do understand the CTRA guys & gals have real lives outside of LFS & I dont expect them to be policing us in there spare time.

So with the spate of bad driving in recent weeks I had a brainwave. Why not let a group of experienced responsible drivers have limited admin powers, in a bid to keep the peace on some of the more populated servers.

I was chatting to someone just today about an experience he had on CTRA 1 where a racer was deliberately wrecking & even though everyone was telling him off & sending reports they were completely powerless. They could not vote kick & so had to endure this complete idiot ruining there evenings racing. Seems a shame when there are so many responsible racers out there having there fun spoiled by the immature few.

What do you think?

CTRA does NOT admin in real time, even though it could a lot of the time. The CTRA deals with reports based upon replays, in which they are often re-watched multiple times. The idea is to make sure a judgement is fair, as while an accident can look "one sided" from one driver, it can look the opposite from another car.

IMO it would be a bad idea, although having an "admin request" for a blatent continued wrecker would be a good touch.
Jakg, we already have that (sorta). I'm usually in Race 1 or Race 2 at any given time, people can shout for me, wher I then scream at Sam or John, and then It's promptly dealt with!

Now, if only I could text Sam, it'd be perfect.
I have a couple ideas, I will have a chat with Sam, not that I have helped much lately... Sorry UKCT =(

The problem is you are theoretically asking someone to be on call for 24 hours a day. While this could happen your asking alot for someone who is not being paid a single penny. If there was cash flow and people paid for services then it's a different story.

I know that there are people out there that will happily give some of their time to CTRA. But there are problems with this. First is that in all likelyhood this person would help for, a month or so, then they would cease to help. The next problem is quality, how can we garuantee that the person who volunteered is up to the task, to the standards we would like to see.

The last bit is who, honestly, in their right mind would devote a significant amount of their time to a project that they don't get paid for. That in itself is not a huge issue, it's the idea that this person is not being paid to look at complaints and no matter which decision that this person made someone always loses out and feels they were treated unfairly. It's all fine and dandy if your hobby is building cars for example. That car will never winge or moan or complain that the treatment recieved was not acceptable or that they feel they were wronged in some way and retailate in various ways. It's just not worth the hassle, now if people were willing to pay a fee that opens up many more possibilites, one being 'live' help.

What I am getting at is if people are wanting more time spent on managing the CTRA they are going to have to delve into their pockets and help us out. Yes having an admin would help but we can only do so much with our free time, which is what the CTRA is run with.

This has been implemented for a while you can send a message to an admin in the $ menus, IIRC it only works when the admin is online not sure,

But a quick "watch car X hes crashing everyone" in the message admin box has worked for me before

I think the CTRA admins do a great job with the staff they have

I'm revising the way this works at the moment. It's part-way complete, and any messages that are sent using the admin notify are now also stored for admins who are offline as well as sent to any who are online. This way, admins will receive the notification instantly if they are using the CTRA Admin or normal CTRA websites.

More to do on this, though
