Head To Head System Test/Comp

Yay! There should be a great rematch in the finals, unless of course someone can't deal with the pressure and gets knocked out because it would be easier then people think to knock these faster guys out if they feel the pressure and make a tiny mistake.
I've had a thought for the final round...

Wouldn't it be better to have like a sudden death format? I.e. the first person to lose from starting in first position loses the final. And if this carries on to say 5 races, add up the times, and the lowest overall time wins?

Edit: Doh! Ignore this, I just read about the new format in the first post.
Yea we changed the rules a little bit to make it more fair for everyone... Although the Pass to Win rule is there so that the races can still be quick and add the pressure that I wanted in the event. There are a few exceptions to the Pass to Win rule and tonight/tomorrow an official rules posting will be made to describe the rules of the event, so that everyone can know whats going on... I hope these rules work well because I am planning on creating the league, will start a sub-topic and other needed things when thats ready. If anyone has combo ideas/suggestions you can PM. The combos MUST be under 90 second lap times, and I want to try doing the less popular cars, also the combos that are harder/more stressful to drive and fun to watch... Will ask for suggestions later when we get started but until then lets focus on this next event testing the new rules.

EDIT:

I was thinking about doing something special for the final races though, haven't had any ideas - but since each match (pair of racers) of the event gets 2 races, (unless the Pass to Win is used) I think the last "Final Round" should be changed a bit to be something slightly different. Its a pretty good chance that the 2 best racers will be in the finals, so should we do the typical match-up or should there be something different? If you have an ideas for something different, which Dave - I do like your idea... 5 races for the final round and see if there is a Pass to Win used at all during the races... Although it should be an even number so that its fair in terms of starting positions.

--------

Just came up with this idea: At the end the two finalists each get a single lap to qualify (with no one else on track) so we would end up watching each finalist travel the track. Then based on their times, the faster driver can choose whether they want to start in the lead, or following. Then there are upto 4 races where the Pass to Win rule is used to cut it short, but will be based on time... Keep in mind there are 2 important exceptions to the Pass to Win that have not been written about in this post, will be in the final rules though.
glad to see we're gunna have a tough battle for the win again

And I did put DaveWS in the list (Hes were Zero was because Zero just told me he cant make it )

Updates rules below please read them! The things that have changed are put in bold text!

Concepts:

Head-To-Head Racing has only two racers on the track at a given point in time, the total for a car/track combo should be less than 90 seconds on average. The race will be held twice; once with Driver A in the lead, and the next Driver A would be following. The times from both of these races will be added together and the driver with the lowest combined time is declared the winner. This eliminates the need to get around a driver to win the race, however it comes with a slight twist. If the driver following the other driver can make the pass and hold it to the finish line then they win the race. If this happens in the first race, there is no need for a second race. If it happens in the second race there the combined times do not count and the driver who succesfully made the pass wins the race.

However, there are limitations that to the Pass to Win rule which won't automatically give the driver a win; If there is contact by the two racers resulting in a spin (lag, racing incident, or otherwise) then the race WILL go on to the second race IF AND ONLY IF the driver in the lead changed due to the spin. If an issue like this happens in the second race, then the total combined time will be used to judge wether the players move on. Pass to Win is also not a way to win during the Finals; the total combined time of the 2 races will be used to judge the final match. Another limitation to the Pass to Win is when a player has a penalty, they can NOT use the Pass to Win as a way to clear their penalty. If they start in the back and want to use the Pass to Win then they must pass their competitor AND finish with a lead that is more than their penalty amount. (A player with a penalty of 1s must have a lead of greater then 1s) - this applies to either race, althouth the other racer can still use the Pass to Win as normal. If niether of the racers use the Pass to Win to advance to the next round, then the penalty is added to the combined time, and as normal the driver with the lowest combined time advances.

The event will be held with two or three rounds before entering the Semi-Finals and Finals depending on the number of racers in the event. Each round (including semi-finals and finals) will be held with the driver with the worst time from the previous rounds in the lead first. Then the entire round will be held "again" with the opposite driver in the lead. This second pass will skip any races that have their final results already due to the "Pass To Win". The racing is fair for everybody and it doesn't matter what position you place in if you didn't get passed or do any passing. We saw in the first Head-to-Head Event that the 2 finalists, who did best of 3 races, didn't allow any passing. The current champion, DaveWS, won 2 out of the three races, although [FM]Troy's combibed time would have been 0.05 seconds faster so he would have won in the new system.

The knockout system works in a series of rounds. Each round eliminates half of the racers, so that only the better racers proceed to the next race. The next race order is based on the "best" of the previous times. Meaning the players qualifying time (first round), or the best of time between the players first lap and second lap of the previous round. Then the player with the WORST time will be placed in first. If they can stay in the lead till the end, the race goes into stage 2 where they swap start positions and do the race again. If the first race start position is confusing, don't worry and just let it happen!

Rules / Penalties:

No talking during races (+1 second to time each comment including smileys).
No Autopitting, Car Reseting or Spectating from the middle of the race!
This makes it hard to make neat videos.
No unsportmanlike conduct (+10 seconds to Disqualification)
Slowing down at the end of the race: Disqaulified
Blocking Passes: +10 seconds
Cutting the track: +10 seconds
Intentional Hitting: +10 seconds (each hit)
Avoidable Hitting IS Intentional +10 seconds
Racing Incidents/Lag will not cause penalties

Contact Policy:

The nature of a Head-to-Head one lap race is to be a very quick race around the circuit. Racing incidents DO and WILL happen and they will be more prone to happen in this style of racing because both drivers are pushing their limits. Each driver is being pressured to perform thier very best for an entire lap so he/she will be more apt to spin, and try to get by another person... If there was a simple racing incident or even lag, just continue racing as soon as you can. If you flip over or your car is undrivable or stuck then DO NOT reset, spectate or auto-pit. Just let your car sit where it is until the end of the race. Any intentional or avoidable incidents will award the accused person a 10 second penalty. The end of the race is the time for discussing these events so hold your frustrations back, and continue racing the best you can as if it was real life.

Blocking Policy:

There is no blocking other racers, if someone is going to pass you it is safer to let them pass you then it is to try getting into their path and block them. Its also unfair sportmanship, so a 10 second penalty could be added to a drivers time if they block another racer. Changing your line before the other racer is too close is acceptable, but only ONCE during a straight. Swinging back and forth, or pushing another driver off the corner will result in a 10 second penalty added to the time. If a driver is by your side as you are about to enter the corner on the inside, brake a little sooner to compensate because you will be responsible if you push the other driver off the track - even if its done without contact. If you don't give the space you will be considered blocking...

Alright. So you hate me. WELL WHOOP DY DO. I'd just like to say, Northern Ireland has had some bad weather, taking (supposedly) Virgin Media with it.

So just one thing:

IT WASN'T MY FAULT FOR THE LAG.

You asked why you couldn't stay, then said it wasn't your fault people are timing out - it clearly was your fault as when you left everything was fine.

They didnt blame it on you they just asked you to leave as you were lagging the SERVER and when you didn't thats when everyone got pissed...

I said I couldn't help it. If people were world wide (and I highly suspect it) I would be smoother.

You could help it, you could have been un-selfish and just left. At least then i'd have some respect for you.

No, I was talking about the lag. I didn't want to leave because I didn't want to miss anything. My PC froze so I rebooted and came back.

Yeah i knew you were talking about the lag, to be fair you couldn't really do anything about that - but the best thing to do would have been to respectfully leave. Which you failed to do, even joining back halfway through a race and spamming a link to this topic.
I like fries.

Anyways Dalek I dont hate u O_O

Well, I'll be on the forums in the morning to check the results.

And I told you to call me Sam on the server =)
Ok Dalek, if you wanted us to call you Sam, then your racer name should be SamDalek instead, thats a minor point of interest. As for some of the other things you said and did I will not mention here as I do not believe in bringing things like that up publicly...

I have to agree with mcintyrej on this one, 3 people had been disconnected as you did, and I am glad this didn't happen during any of their races. You could have been unselfish and left the server. As much as you wanted to watch, the rest of the event and people in it would have suffered. I don't know if it was my 1 day ban I needed to put on you that made you stay away, or the fact that you actually started respecting and listening to what we asked, but the rest of the event went well and we will post the results as soon as we get a chance.

Very wonderful racing today, Pass to Win rule seems to add some pressure, especially getting into the Semi-Finals where last weeks 2nd place finalist was knocked out by Fusion.Jack. This weeks final round was very interesting, and one slip be cP DaveWS could have changed the outcome of event. cP DaveWS is our 2 time Head-to-Head Champion...
This event was really fun, races were really close too! I did better on this one too Made it to semi but lost to DaveWS(Suprise suprise...) Anyways Nice races Phreak and de Souza!

Grats Jack for making it to the finals and for Dave for wining again.

Troy well better luck next time. (I bet u took out the lawn mower after the race n cut that stupid grass )

Great event!

And thanks for coming everyone!
Yeah, that was an intense race at the end dave!
It was a great event today, and my first.
Thanks to the organizers and to evilpimp for a great race.

Ill make sure to return for the next LX H2H event.
