The online racing simulator
A novel solution for discouraging wreckers
I believe that whenever someone crashes online, LFS should send packets of information to LFS World detailing the severity of the crash and the calculated harm to the virtual driver. This information, along with the address of the 'real-life' driver, is then relayed to CRC, who promptly commission one (or several, depending on the complexity of the job) of their 'peace-enforcer' personnel to 'take care' of the situation. The enforcer arrives at the user's street address and infilcts the appropriate damage on the offender. For example, if their adventure into the rear of another car (at T1 of course) causes the front of their car to crumple, the CRC goons will break the user's legs. Or, if their car rolls several times (after destroying the leader's race on the last lap), the user will be 'placed' into a cardboard box and pushed down a flight of stairs. As soon as the photos (and stories) of the 'unfortunate' survivors flood the forum, presto, no more wreckers!

Almost forget, LFS works out who is to blame by searching the user's details for 'drift', 'noob' and 'whammo!'

CRC: keepin' the peace!
sounds like somebody had a bad night at the track then...
I have a bad night at the track every night because I'm on dial-up, but don't get me started on that (I will have cable soon).

Angst against wreckers is a commonly recurring theme on the forums, so I thought I'd address it with a solution that everyone (save for the wreckers) can enjoy!
Ah, but from a technical stand point, how does a computer determine what/who caused the crash? :P

The idea is great
this has come up many many times; look at RSC, i believe we had about 3 or 4 threads of this; always comming out to not working because it would be nearly impossible to figure out who caused it whether it be someone else .. or lag
I sometimes think too much is made of wreckers etc in S2. I had a peek into a few demo servers last night...............SCAREY! Like looking into Bedlam. I scurried back to the sanity that is S2.
I think the LFS license agreement might need updating if physical harm could actually occur from wrecking.

But yeah, I like the idea of having big impacts recorded, so that people can have an "accident per xx miles (km)" figure (just like insurance companies use ). That way, even if you get into accidents quite regularly, you'll still be clocking the miles up inbetween, so the figure won't be too high. Wreckers on the other hand, who sit there as a moveable obstacle without going around the track, will have there figure shoot through the roof.
i like that idea- you could even impose a maximum # of accidents per 100km as a criteria to join a server
Agreed, although there would have to be a filter for how far through the race you are. Let's say you have a race at Ky. 4 times in a row, some nugget spins out, and takes the whole pack out. For 4 races, everyone is going to have the same crash:distance ratio. That could ruin somone's overall ratio, making it impossible for them to join a server. Has to be done carefully.
I had brought up a solution to the problem a while ago on RSC, but it got little discussion. I'll bring it up again.

We need a server admin board. A place where naming names is OK, as long as you have a replay. The server admins could browes through the replays, taking note of who to ban and then banning them from thier server for however long they felt necessary. If we had a network to police the servers, then all would be well.
Bloody genuis, i was kinda thinking something similar myself but incorporating it into LFSworld as accident per mile would leave us in no doubt as to who was wrecking and who ain't, i guess if you got a very low accident ratio but still took to wrecking evry now and then it'd be a bit harder to spot but if they've got miles under their belt they prolly won't want to get gimped for wrecking.

i think we could call this an official IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION

yeh i suppose that would be a good solution but you would have to make it so only server admins could get access to it. You could put in the name of your server e.g. 4Sight Racing #1 and then the password and get access.

great idea matey

Been tried, didn't go anywhere.
not properly it hasn't. if it was official and only admins could access it then i would useit and i definetly know a number of other people who would use it.
Sounds like we need an LFS Court. Sort of like a governing body, like the FIA

Cases are sent to LFS Court, with proof (replays etc) and if any licence penalties are handed out to wreckers or other idiots, it goes to LFS Central and the licence is revoked for a set amount of time.
The only way that will work is if your online name matches the name you licenced S2 with (or some identifying licence number).
So then maybe we can apply for LFS driving licences which are all numbered and that is shown by force on the 'Name over cars' feature. That way all the driving licence numbers are kept by LFS admin and they know who people are.

So I would be F1Racer-218543 and if I change my nick it would be F1R-218543. My licence number stays with me whenever I race online.

Nice in an ideal world but maybe LFS is programmed to deep to implement such features.
If you are a wrecker and have like 50k accidents per 100km, wouldnt you be even happier to have the chance to screw someone else's stats by wrecking him?
People could even start some kind of "who is the best wrecker" championship.

The problem with LFS is the same as in rl, you can NEVER get rid of idiots, stupidity is waiting everywhere
Additionally, it's also a matter of interpretation what you call stupid. Maybe those wreckers think they are cool and we suck

In the licensed version, everyone has a licensed name that can't be changed. In the demo, make people register at the LFS site just like you do in the licensed version in order to download the demo. Other download sites make you register before you can download something. Then they also have a name and they could be banned.
yeah, i believe to the licensed version we should have "rpolice"
