Requesting Refund for S1?
Hey Everyone,
I just purchased LFS S1 after playing the demo for a few days. Well I have to say, with only one server available to play on, and it being full all evening, I would like a full refund for my S1 purchase. I haven't been able to use the game besides hotlaps and with AI drivers. Online play is what I purchased it for, and that is exactly what I cannot do. Why even offer S1 with only one server available?

Who do I contact? Or if anyone wants to buy my login, message me.

Thanks,

Andrew

Go buy S2, there are hundreds of servers
I wanted to have online gameplay for only $24 Canadian, not $54. If I was going to pay that, I would have bought Valve's Orange Box for entertainment.
It's too late now. You have driven some km online. They won't refund if you do that.
I don't really feel sorry for you anyway. You should have looked around before rushing in to buying S1 and since you prefer Orange Box over LFS, I don't think you would make a good racer anyway. You would probably only crash around online.

Well then thats your stupidity...

It's the equivalent of you buying Call Of Duty 1 for online play, but than realises that COD 4 is out

EDIT: You do know that S1 came out nearly 4 and a half years ago..
You can only get a refund if you have never unlocked LFS, which you have done. So just pay a little more money get S2 and join the wordl of online racing.

TBH I didn't even realise S1 was offered anymore.
This is why cross compatability is necessary, in terms of content per server. Although very few people buy S1, there will be some, and the way it's set up now is not fair to cheapskates. S1 users should be able to see all servers with compatible content enabled (I.E., S1 track with any combination of S1/S2 cars, but of course only able to drive the S1 license cars). The license should be for content access, which is really is supposed to be, but it doesn't work online which is pretty silly. Yes, and S1 license holder should be able to drive an S1 car even on a track with other S2 cars if the server is setup as such (like a TBO/LRF server for example). It really is a deficiency IMO.
(Playing the devil's retarded cousin's advocate) the layout & wording on the LFS site can be misleading on this issue at worst.

looking at the cars & tracks page and glancing at the "before you buy" introduction. It seems like you would just be limited to a certain car/track selection - not completely segregated from the entire playing population

It would be nice if the engine/netcode were re-done to allow the communities to merge (e.g. S1 users can only spectate on S2 tracks, and only participate on S1 tracks where S1 cars are allowed), but honestly - being S2 licensed already I'd rather see simulation improvements first.

I'm not even sure why S1 is still sold as it is with the current segregation system, i'd at least put up some big bold letters saying "THE S1 LICENSE IS AVAILABLE FOR CONVENIENCE PURPOSES ONLY, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO JOIN 99% OF ONLINE SERVERS WITHOUT S2".
+1 about S1 still being sold! People who don't know the situation buy that and then wonder what is wrong. Even worse if you bought by transferring money from your bank account to a virtual bank because then you have to pay the commision to the bank again.

I sympathize with your situation, and hope it works out to your favour in the end.
Just to make sure...

Check your PM inbox and read Diekolkrabe's message

...u wont regret it (no im not 100% sure what he wrote..but 99% is good enough )
You can host your own server as well. Perhaps the other people who have S1 feel the same way. You could host and then you'd all be able to play together.
I keep suggesting this over and over: servers should detect what content they're running, and automatically go into S1 mode if running S1 content. It's only fair to the people who buy S1 licenses.

I would be very happy if someone make a event

Btw:sorry for my double post
Some people are really cheap.
That said, you are better off selling it to someone. There's no good reason for the devs to reimburse you.

We did stop selling S1 for a while a long time ago, but we allowed it again due to quite a lot of demand for it.

As buying S2 costs the same as getting S1 and upgrade to S2, it's a useful upgrade path for people who can't or don't want to pay the full amount in one go. We do sell quite a few S1 licenses. In fact we sell as many S1 licenses as S1 to S2 upgrades, the result being that the number of S1 licensed racers stays constant at around 9000.

One thing to remember is there ARE a few S1 hosts online though most of them are empty (most S2 hosts are empty too though there are a lot more occupied ones than in S1). If you switch off the empty filter you'll see the empty ones there. Don't forget someone has to be the first to join a host. If no-one ever joined an empty host then there wouldn't be anyone online at all. If you join an S1 host it will appear in the S2 list of hosts and if it's a combination that people want to race on then someone will join.

May I repeat an old request to hosts : if your host is running with S1 content, please start it in S1 mode. There are a lot of S1 racers around who would be happy about that. There is no disadvantage running in S1 mode - it allows the same number of racers online, the skin download system is fully functional and the host is visible in the S2 list of hosts.

And before anyone makes the suggestion that it would be nice if S1 content hosts were visible in the S1 list, even if they were started in S2 mode - I already know that would be better. It's slightly complicated to do but I hope to do that at some point. The best thing at the moment is to start S1 content hosts in S1 mode.

Thanks!

I acutally like this idea and think it would make a good change in LFS for S1/S2. Maybe in the Setup file just have "Licenced" or "Demo" as options, not "Demo"/"s1"/"s2". ive seen a lot of hosts in LFS with s1 content and no need to be in s2.
In agreement with Scawen :
Someone has to be the first to join a host, I have found this many times.
I used to look at the severs wanting to join where there are a least a couple in there.

Then I would join one on my own, and before long sometimes I would be joined by many - who presumably were also looking to drive with at least "someone", so that they are not lapping alone.

Must be something in the human mentality, I guess we just don't want to be alone, or maybe we don't want to be the first to join a server.
