Some people don't need to be made fun of as they're more than capable of doing it themselves
Time to drop common sense in favour of good sense.
this reminds me on the STASI for some reason

illepall
Stasi, Gestapo, KGB, Thought Police, Dementors, it's all the same to me
Anyway here's another pearl of wisdom:

"Because the plaintiffs are aliens and were located outside sovereign United States territory at the time their alleged RFRA claim arose, they do not fall with the definition of 'person,'"
Quote from Albieg :Time to drop common sense in favour of good sense.

The only common thing about common sense is that it isn't very common.

I would love to comment on u.s. politics on that matter, but then I would get attacked by americans, so I'll just drop it.
Quote from pine-fin :I would love to comment on u.s. politics on that matter

Oh, you don't have to. You just have to ask yourself if you'd be comfortable - in your Country - with the legal definition of person being based on nationality.
USA in over zealous terroism shock, now theres a suprise.

Funnily enough, I was watching "The Village" the other day, and remarked at how similar living in the USA must be to living in "The Village".

My 1 year old son was considered suspicious, strip-searched, and taken away from me.... Apparently because his name "greatly resembled" that of a known threat - not to mention it was also suspicious that I am a US citizen and he was not. Why he fell under more suspicion than me (an adult) is a complete mystery.
They eventually gave him back, after I literally broke down crying, and we got out of the country... ASAP. But not before they threatened to put me on the no-fly list for "resisting", as apparently, arguing that a tiny medically needy 1 year old could not possibly be hatching a terrorist scheme.
It was such a horrifying and traumatic experience that I will NEVER visit the US again.

Lunkheads...

Sometimes I get the feeling some Americans would like it that way Hell, so would a lot of non-Americans

I kid, my US friends, I like you guys ... I just think your government's a pack of dangerous loons and they're gonna get us all killed
As I understand it, the staff is empolyed by a sub contractor choosen by lowest bidder by a sub contractor choosen by lowest bidder by a sub contractor choosen by lowest bidder (yes, in that many levels)

This ofcourse means that the only staff they can afford are those rejected from mcdonalds. It's not their fault they act heartless and brainless, they are wisely forbidden to initiate any thinking, their superiors are supposed to do that.

But also because of the fact so many companies stick hard to rules even if their senses tell them a 5 year old isn't a terrorist they know if they don't still do what the rules say they will get sacked.

Just like a coastguard/mountain rescue guy here didn't want to waste time getting all the right safety gear to safe a girls life, and was then put in a H&S inquiry because he didn't keep to the rules.

...and ended up being 'asked to resign'...in other words, SACKED!!!

I know it's fun to say this stuff, but on a day to day basis, for rational Americans, life in the US is probably much like life in the UK or any other developed nation.

We just have funnier/more ridiculous headlines.

Agreed.

Disagreed. How dare you compare to us Italians...
That's true, Italy is fairly ridiculous.
Yep... keep in mind that the moronic uranium documents from Niger were fabricated here... but we were quick to dismiss them and pass them to the Americans

Confused at first a decided to dive a little deeper into this story, found out that he initially went against his superiors command, collect rewards and such. Now those on their own aren't to bad until you consider some of the other sides points.
  1. He is after all a Volunteer rescuer, and it's his superiors job to make sure he comes home, safe. After all what use is a dead hero?
  2. Again as a volunteer, he is not supposed to receive any payment what so ever, and £1000 vouchers is a fair some, which he decided to keep.
Agreed H&S rules are at times a complete joke, but this guy isn't as clean cut as he's made out to be in the press, in fact in the interview I saw he came across a right arrogant sod.

Indeed - the vast majority of us in North America live our lives largely unharrassed by the government (aside from taxes and the like) and not running from the thought police .
that title reminded me of little joke i read

Depressed.

I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline.
Got a call center in Pakistan.

I told them I was suicidal.

They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.
is that even real? it sounds so much like satire
