While running tonight on the CTRA server I kept getting yellow flags. I was running along in second about 5 or so car lengths behind the leader, and running fine. Almost every turn it would tell me Yellow Flag and use caution while recovering, but there wasn't anything wrong lol. So I looked on the CTRA website and it says I caused 38 yellows at 67%. I was running by myself with no one around me and never even went off the track
This happen to anyone else?
Were you on Blackwood Reversed? We know there's a problem with the path on that track, which I think will be fixed with the next patch. If it was another track, we need to let Scawen know.
hehe.. I think I asked in the server, when we were racing. I'm going to drop that track for now, until Scawen's had a chance to fix it. I dunno when that will be, and yellow flag averages are definitely creeping up now that I'm looking at the stats. It's only the reverse config, and it's only temporary
[edit] BL1R dropped from the track selections, effective immediately.
I noticed this on SS1 yesterday on SO Sprint 2. If there's a car stationary the 'pitlane', or one traveling down it toward the racetrack, yellow flags will be thrown despite the fact that there's a wall between.
hehe.. I need to re-learn using the search function
As soon as the path is fixed, I'll reinstate the track immediately. The yellow flag ratio is a consideration for a lot of people, even though we don't place any emphasis on it as CTRA. The biggest problem is that the points are affected, in that everyone gets multiple yellows on a lap with no incidents.. so it's almost "worthless" to race at the moment
This is exactly what I was afraid of. I'm obviously not going to tell you guys how to conduct your business, but I must urge you to take CTRA stats with a rather large grain of salt for exactly the reasons stated above.
This goes especially for finishing ratio. Mine is rather low because there have been many instances where I've purposely dropped out of the race in order to avoid causing a collision, or to get myself out of the way just after a collision. Sure shift+S is unrealistic, but I'll choose that over ruining the races of the top five cars any day.
You guys are a good bunch though so I trust you do this already.
Absolutely And we do. It is a guide and can only be used as a guide, have no fear of that.
For instance, I nearly always trip a flag every race i join late, as leaving the pits and not getting up to speed depending upon the meshing of the track means adding a yello to my tally.
I personally would do this (assuming that i join at the proper time and don't interfere with other racers ) as then at least i have a few laps under my belt prior to the next start with a grid full of cars and a rusty driver at the wheel
You're absolutely right, Andy! Good point. It's 100% about having fun and enjoying LFS. The points are a structure, intended to offer continuity over multiple races, and to add/build purpose, but they're not the only mission.
Gotta agree, while the CTRA stats give some interesting numbers, the most important things to consider relate directly to the person, rather than the CTRA statistics. While the stats do give *an* indication, they're not definitive.
We introduced an Access Key system recently, which enables you to share your licence notes with teams that are interested. The notes are more useful because they tell the background tale (ideally no tale at all). I would encourage teams who are looking to recruit someone who's raced a good deal on the CTRA servers to ask for a key. All replays referred to in licence notes are still accessible (even from a year ago, when we first started), so teams can look at instances and make calls for themselves. CTRA admins may have the last word on CTRA servers, but we do ensure that you can form your own opinion from the same info
Of course, ideally, there should be no notes at all.. but even some of the best out there can go astray occasionally!
I do the same. In fact, hesitating for the sake of making sure not to interfere with others' races, for example while leaving the pits, can clock up a good few extra yellows. I just try to compensate on the track, by not throwing them if I can help it
Yeah, I should have made it clear that we certainly don't use it as a deciding factor, only as a guide. But it is a fair indicator of peoples cleanliness.
The two stats that I keep sweating over are the Finishes and Yellows.
I try to get as high finishing and as low yellow percentage as possible.
The points are there just so I can drive the XRT.
Sometimes I do wish that we had a higher licensed XRG/XFG server.
About the rust.
I don't really like mid race joining. So I don't do it unless the track is so long that it's nearly impossible to lap anyone. I join so that the racers are just passing the pit so I can stay in the box untill they are gone. Then I start driving after them.
Normally I try to start the first race as far back as I can. I let the others get a good start and hang back for the first turns. Then I have a clear track infront and I can get my act together without endangering the others race. Some times I can even get in a good lap so I start higher up in the next race.
