I didn't realise your Bimmer was a baby 1.6! Then again I should've used my tiny brain cell and thought about it, you're going for your test soon.

When my mate first got his 316, I had to have a gander under the lid and couldn't help but chuckle. Little engine in that huge engine bay does look silly. Reminds me of the 1.6 Capri's, huge bay, tiny lump.

And like you said, it is pretty clean for a 14 year old car.

If I remember rightly, the 318 is no different from the 316 in engine size (obviously the capacity is 200cc more) but then once you get to the 320, you get an extra 2 cylinders and a huge engine.

The 316 and the 318 engine are exactly the same (apart from the extra capacity) but apart from that they are the same.

When you step up to the 320, thats when you get straight 6 power

e2mustang - is it ok to have drilled brake discs? I hear that they are meant to be used for short periods of time, and that they will wear out very quickly. One day you might press the brakes and nothing will happen.

its ok my friend as i drive 2000 miles in a year,and as im a mechanik i check out my car every weekend
Its meant to wear faster maybe,but i love its looks,it gives a special look to the car IMO

Here's a pic of my car after the 'incident.'

And then a pic a few weeks later when I spent 2 hours at the parking lot of the nearby park, which had turned into the biggest ice rink in New Jersey. Had fun doing 360's, powerslides, reverse 180's and all kinds of stuff, lol.

Used to own a Mk2 as well. Preferred the Mk1.. but picked this one up for nothing. Started life as a 1.1 Popular.. ended up as a 2.8 "sleeper" (only clue was it was gutted except the 2 front bucket seats)

The General Lee - I saw some Russians supercharging a 1.6...
I know this is stupid since you can get a 2.0 and get more power, but the costs were around 1500 Euros for the parts only...

1 single thing will stop him:

Insurance...

I'm paying £1200 on a 2003 1.6l Focus, which is cheap... The next cheapest quote I got was £1800. And that is fully comp with 2.5 years driving experience with no claims.

Imagine how much a modified car would be on the insurance... As anything modified on the car has to be declared. If you don't do that it invalidates the insurance, so technically you're not insured.

TGL is a new driver with a BMW... I don't want to know how much he's paying (or going to be) for insurance when he passes his test!!

Gotta love hitting the 25 mark... my E30 325i costs me ~£420 a year with no no-claims bonus

My uncle would be up for doing that, he used to do that kinda thing. Mustang V8 mid engined ford thames van for example used to pull wheelies. maybe a 4wd twin V8 capri? engine at each end....ohh the posibilities!
