Quote from Snake2 :l would be very intrested, I will give all the support I can.

Quote from KrazyMitch :I am a beginner and i am possibly getting S2 this week! If so i will join you guys then.:eclipsee_

Quote from oophus :Would I be qualified to join?

I've raced pretty much before, but in April last year I totally crushed my knee, so I can't use a wheel anymore, (or atleast for some time) so I have to learn using the mouse to play.

Quote from CR1972 :I've had S2 for a good while, but have really only started using it properly in the last week, since I got a new wheel over christmas. I'd be interested in a beginners cup, if it isnt too late?

Thanks all for your interest.

Follow the link in my sig.

We have a couple of full time spots left, a couple of single round entries and then we're on reserves.
I Probably wont be able to get S2 for a good month or so. So I wont be able to join you guys any time soon.:ashamed:

J@kto's Beginner Cup idea has really taken off, so I'm certain it will be run again after the "inaugural" cup in February and March this year. Hang around in the beginner cup forum, keep up to date with how it's going, and make sure you get S2 in time for the next one

I know - hasn't it. When I first thought of the idea in November time, I thought we'd get around 10-15 sign ups. I made up a set of rules and jokingly put in something about having two races if we had too many sign up. How wrong I was!!!

We're nearing 40 sign-ups already and it's another fortnight before the series starts.

It'll be an annual event, held each Feb/March time. There'll be another New Dimension Racing Event at the end of the summer, watch out for that.

40 signups? theres only allowed 32 racers
ah ok i gotcha you need any servers?
O man.. 20 people on the grid O_O

Thats gunna be horible FPS at start :S.

Unless Im at my dads but last I checked during Round 1 ill be at my moms......

Meh hopefully ill catch up for the spots lost in the rest of the race..

WHAT! ANNUAL! I can't wait that long!

In all seriousness, given the interest you've had, this thing should be regular, and running most of the time. What do you think?

Only one way to fix that: be sure to get pole position.

Or do what I do - and turn everything down!

Well, that is a good idea. I can't do it in april-july as that's when I'll have exams for the next 3 years. Maybe late autumn?

Depends when the UF-BR fall out cup is. If that finishes in October, then the series will be run again just before christmas.
hmmm

Well, you've done the hard work already for the first series by sorting the calendar, server, applications process and rules. The subsequent series could almost run themselves, no? Dekojester would still act as race control I hope, but aside from that, whatever decisions you make for this series would just carry over. Thoughts?
I just realised I'll have to run LFS with no skins, graphics basically OFF, I'll pretty much be driving by sound

Oh, and I'll use snow mod, it has more fps than grass apparently...

That is true. Subsequent series will have less organising for me to do. How about we have it twice a year, once now and another in the start of the autumn?

I play with graphics basically off too.

(nice tip about the snow mod )

You can run it as often as you like!!

I guess it depends how the first one goes really, doesn't it.
lol J@tko I tried putting everything down and thats when I get 5 fps with everyone on the track... lol

I think ill try the first advice about takin pole position :P that should work.

Well, you won't be at the back, that's for certs.

I'm slow, Dougie-lampkin says he's really slow and JO53PHS is slow cos he's just got a wheel. So that's 17th!
Aha but itll be worst if im in the middle lol everyone at the back will keep bumping into me . Meh... Ill try to get in the top 3 in quali... Just need to practice a bit harder after exams.
If I had a decent PC, i would probably decimate everyone! But going into corners with 5 - 10fps ain't good...

HAHA @ all of you.

Im getting between 100 and 300 FPS with all settings on full

A full grid at CTRA doesn't bring my FPS down much lower than 80.

So I'll be able to overtake you all as you laggg
I have it! I'm gonna disable every single setting in LFS, so that it's basically a blank screen. I can then use race spectator to drive! Flawless plan!
Instead of having first come first serve, why not let in ten more people or so into the series and have a pool that will be outside the race if they dont qualify? That way there is a incentive to perform good laptimes.

A bit off topic, but I wonder if it would be possible to implement a feature that automatically changes graphics settings in the game to keep frame rates above a user defined minimum as the race progresses. So that in the beginning when the whole grid is in frame AA and AF and stuff would be turned down, but then as the race progresses these things would be turned on again to make the graphics better? Would that be at all possible?
I don't think teams are happening. It would probably over-complicate things, and it's not really within the scope of the Beginner's Cup to introduce people to team racing.

I see your point about splitting the grid into 2 races, in that you may lose control over your position in the championship (e.g. drivers A and B, last race, A is one point ahead, A qualifies P1 and B in P2, they get put into seperate races, B can do nothing about A winning his race and therefore the cup because he isn't given the opportunity to beat A on track. With 37 registered applicants, I'd say it was unlikely more than 32 will ever turn up in one go, but if they do, what else can we do?
