What to upgrade for more fps ?
Hi Folks !

When i play lfs and i have much cars moving on screen, for example at start with about 20 cars, my fps are going down to about 20 fps sometimes. When there is not much going on on screen, i have about 150, sometimes more or lesser.
so what have i to upgrade, to fix this. Is it more about graphics card or the CPU or what else ?
i have a core 2 duo 6600 and a 8800 GTS 640 mb (old one), 2000 gb ram on a stiker exteme mb. Windows XP Pro, SP2.

thx for any help, greetinx, M16hTy M.

Thats your CPU, and it's normal.

TBH you'd be going from a 2.4 GHz Dual core to a 3 GHz Dual Core (ie an E6850), even if you went for a new Wolfdale core you wouldn't see much improvement.

try download a new graphics card driver...because you should not be getting 20fps on full grid, also....2000Gb of RAM?

EDIT: You have exact same graphics card....but a better CPU, so you should be getting way more than 90FPS on full grid....

Just try searching for some new nVidia Drivers

At least you can get over 10 fps on a grid of about 10, when i try and play on a grid of at least 7, my comp will hover around the 4 - 12 fps range T_T

Shut up.

20 FPS at the back of a full grid is not unreasonable. The CPU IS the limiting factor here.

(Please ignore this guy, your getting 150 FPS so obviously your GFX card is fine)

The settings you run as well will have a big effect of FPS, AA and AF for example.

20fps is in the right area for a full grid of AI at the start (maybe you could expect a few more, but again it depends of settings) for Harjun to say you should be at 90fps is totally unhelpful and rubbish.

There was a guy a few days ago with a quad core and SLI'd 8800 graphics cards (can't remember the exact spec but it was amazing) that was getting 45fps I think he said, at the starts with a full grid of AI.

A 3.2 GHz QX6700 (Quad core has no effect in this game) with SLi'd 8800GTX's.

He was only getting 35 FPS iirc...
I get solid 60 fps (pegging my set limit) with a full grid of AI. My specs aren't that much better than yours. 3.00 ghz dual core, 8600gt, 2.8 gigs of ram, etc. I wonder if it might just be time to clean out the case and try to get your current stuff running cooler. Is your power supply enough to support your components?

Just for kicks, set the max fps down to 40 or so. It will still appear smooth, but the difference between 20 and 40 will help you keep your rythem.

Would be three, but with Vista 32bit, the OS uses some of the ram. Up to 2gig, Vista allos all to be used as ram, but beyond that, some will be devoted to system processes. Mine shows 2812MB ram.

I don't believe that. I just checked from the back with a full grid of UFRs at BL1 I got 30fps, which went down to a low of 27 when they pulled away. I've got an E6750/8800GT.

To the OP I'd suggest either waiting a while before upgrading processors for the fairly minimal advantage or waiting for LFS to become multi-core, which no doubt is in the pipeline.

Wow, that's worse than XP. I've got 4 Gb, but I'm limited to 3.4 Gb.

No. Vista 32 should actually address up to 3.5. Try this-
Open the Command Prompt, then type "BCDEdit /set PAE forceenable" then hit enter. It should then be able to address more than 4 GB. I'm not sure if it actually works, because I got this info from a friend. Wouldn't hurt to give it a shot though.

Still shows 2815Mb. Computer still functions, though.

To the OP, how much memory do you have available to run LFS? What ram hogging processes are you trying to use?
Don't forget that if you are running AA and AF as well as other settings in the nvidia control panel it will drop your FPS. If you aren't running anything additional to the in game settings you will obviously have better FPS....also pausing the game to check what the FPS is will make your FPS jump as well, obvious but just wanted to make sure.
