Video quality?
So, we are pleased to announce that our DIV (driften is vet) video is done, the only problem is that our video size is huge, more then 1 GigaByte (!) While the video itself is only 5 minutes long. After i have seen some video's out of this section, i'm curious how all of you can get such a good quality, while the video isn't a big size at all. We made the movie with Sony Vegas. I'm not sure which one, but i think 8.0.. not pro. And the filming with fraps. Is there a solution to this problem?
compression is the solution...
that's why we have a "Making LFS movies" thread - to find answers to questions

Try DivX!
But isn't it already compressed after saving it as a .AVI file?
(i'm sorry for the newb questions, i'm not good at this stuff..)

you chose the compression in your settings right before saving the avi file
Uncompressed Avi of my last movie (7 minutes) was 27GB
Compressed Avi is 109 Mb

Get DivX or Xvid...
There are different compression methods and scales of it. You are trying to achieve a good balance between quality and size. About 20 MB for every minute sounds about right for a very good quality video.

if under 800x600 then yes
if around 1024x768 - 30 MB is ok...
Well it depends how much movement there is in the movie.
So i've looked at the ''How to make a movie'' topic, but it doesn't say much how to use the xvid codec, could anyone please explain ?
I suggest you google for some compression tutorials. I personally don't know much about it, I just wing it with quantizer in XviD.
Just asking: Anyone with experience compressing a HQ 16:9 720p movie? I currently edit one, uncompressed it's about 1GB a minute which obviously is nice for local enjoyment, but unnecessary large for the web. I plan to have 4 minutes in the end, so do you think a file size of 300 MB is reasonable? Lot's of movement by the way.
:woohoo: Great, it worked! :woohoo:
I tested it on another video of mine, and it came out half the size, to other people who might need this, here are some download links and a video to explain how it works.
Vid (This isn't me!):

Download VirtualDub:
http://virtualdub.en.softonic.com/

Download Codec:
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

All you need to to do is install the codec, download and extract the VirtualDub in a map, i just made a new one called ''virtualdub''
And watch the movie. The sound compression as that guy explains it may not be right, i didn't work for me. But what i did is just only highlight MPEG layer-3 and press ok, that worked for me.

Oh, thats one good compression I guess.
Well, I am down to 1MByte / s. I will see if there's more to compress out of it.
just make sure it's quality is good in the end
