HELP!! newb needs to know the rules!
Ive looked in the manual but cant seem to figure out why I get disqualified in every race I have.

Whats a drive thru penalty?

What does a Blue Flag Mean?
Blue Flag- Somebody is passing you second time (or more) and you need to get out of his way.

Drive through penalty- When you drive more than 80 km in the pit
When in the pits, you're only allowed to go 80km/h (48mph). If you drive faster you get a drive-through or even more severe penalties.

A blue flag means that someone who has more laps than you (so he's actually infront of you) approaches you from behind, so in other words, you are being lapped. In such a case you have to give him room to pass as soon as it is safe to do so. You don't have to run off the track and ruin your race, but just let the one behind you pass easily.

For a beginning...
Read the "Rules" section under "Gt-Challenge".
Anyway all the other leagues have rules too, but most of them are the same...

80 km/h = 49.7096954 mph heh sorryillepall I do believe LFS's pit limit is at 48mph though.
Is there a way of limiting your speed for this purpose?

I have trouble seeing some of the dials so I can see myself loosing allot of time here.

There is the pit limiter, press L to activate/disactivate it. But only racecars have it (and FXR ). No speed limiter in roadcars what I mean.
What I do is I just hit the Accelrator till I hit 70 then I let the car roll till I am out of pits

Perfect, thank you very much

Kinda makes sense, L=Limiter - lol

You get rid of Drive-Through penalty by getting into a pit section and ... driving it through

You can change the dials in options. You have to change the clock to virtual or something, it is much better. It show numbers like 79.

no, i thought it was 50, as you can use the clutch to push through the limiter to 49 without getting a warnign
Well, actually it's exactly 80 km/h and for mph exactly 80/1.61 which is, as NetDemon correctly pointed out 49.71 mph.

You have to consider though, that LFS uses the exact speed you have at the moment, not just what the speedo shows.

That means, you are allowed to drive 80 km/h, but as soon as you drive 80.00001 km/h you get a penalty (so when 80 shows on the speedo, don't get your hopes up it was exactly 80 - you will get a penalty ). On the mph scale you've got a buffer though. There you can drive 49 mph all you like, as long as you stay under 49.71. That may result in you driving through the pit with 49mph and suddenly you get a drive-through because you reached 49.8 for a split second... bad luck then, I guess.

Basically, just go with 78 / 48 or even a bit slower, the extra speed of going faster doesn't make up for the risk of a drive-through.
There's plenty of helpful info in the sticky threads on the main page of the beginners forum too
On non-race cars I set the first gear to do 48mph flat out. That way I just hold first all the way through the pits and I'm fine.

That's one way to do it I guess, but you'll come out onto the track with a damaged engine.

In which car? I do it too, and I've never had engine damage in S2 (except that time I shifted from 6th to 1st at 160mph - heh heh, the engine wouldn't run after that). But I don't drive the boring cars (RB4, FXO and FXR) very much. The limiter always saves my engine, and I can't imagine those cars (RB4, FXO and FXR) are the only ones without a rev limiter.
The engine doesn't get damaged, alteast not for the short period of pitting. Maybe if you sit there for 10 minutes but the 30 or less seconds you usually need are way to short to do anything.

Having the rpm fixed also slows the car down, so up to a certain degree you can perfectly drive downhill without gaining speed. If you'd engage the clutch, tho...
