Mouse + Formula V8 or BF1
I just got S2 unlocked, and have been having a ball with different cars.

Does anyone here play with keyboard/mouse and manage to drive the Formula V8 and the F1 car without spinning out and get decent lap times?

At the moment, my performance with the F1 car will make Yuji Ide proud.
Lol congrats for the s2 license!

And as far as I know, people have had lots of trouble with keyboard or mouse using formula cars. I think more keyboard the mouse however.

Just get a cheap wheel :P

My desk won't fit a wheel, unless it is one of those el-cheapo things with suction cups instead of clamps. I used to have a Logitech Formula wheel, but it broke after about a year.

I have no problems with handling the FBM and the Formula Renault (whatever abbreviation that is). But the Formula V8 (or Formula 3000 to be more realistic) and F1 are a handful.
Well then get a wheel and custom make a thing so it fits to your desk, You sound like a smart man!

Try to play with the button control rate to get smoother inputs.
For FBM 4 to 6 may be possible but for the F08 or F1 you should probably shoot for 2 to 2.5.
Good luck!
It's hard but possible with some practise. Some tracks are harder. You should try tracks without tight corners (or very few) first. For example I drove Aston National with FO8 some time ago (using mouse). F1 is not my favourite and I never drive it. You probably have to make a set that it has more understeer than the wheel/pedal user sets. Otherwise it is easy to spin in tight corners.
FO8 is a difficult car to drive with KB as it's got a lot of power but no TC. With a keyboard, you have either full throttle or nothing. This means it's hard to get off the line. It's drivable with a pad, if you don't want to use a wheel - provided you use the analog stick for throttle/brake, otherwise it's the same problem with buttons.

The BF1 has TC, but it can be a PITA some times out of corners. The other problem is that it's generally much faster which causes problems with reactions etc.

The FO8 I find almost impossible to drive, but incredibly fun. Which is odd, but I like a challenge - but not one too extreme that it's impossible.
Keyboard is fine for most cars. Mouse is good for most cars. Lets put it this way me and a team mate of mine i use keyboard he uses mouse. Both of us after lots of practice in the BF1/BL1 were only tenths from the world record (held by a very good driver with a wheel) And i still think i was getting faster every day. But thats in the past now patch Y is here and new cars are intresting me. My advice now is only try the formula cars on large tracks that it is suited for but the larger the track the more advantage wheel users have as being smooth counts. If you want to be quick get a wheel or have shit loads of practice on keyboard i.e. over 2000 laps on a combo.

Exactly, the Formula V8 has a lot of extra power! Spinning is a common, even on wheels. Still it's one of my favs
I've managed to get around some tracks with the FO8 and BF1 by setting the button control rate to 2.00. Interestingly, the BF1 is easier to drive, thanks to TC.

Thank you all for your advice. But I don't think I'll be driving the FO8 or BF1 too much. FOX is my favourite at the moment, although it's way too slow for a Formula Renault 2000 car.

(Actually the FOX seems like the British Formula Renault BARC, which use restrictors to reduce power to 175BHP, but the LFS website quotes power at 190BHP. The full-spec Formula Renault 2000 engine produces 192BHP, and are a lot faster than the FOX.)
I've been driving with mouse for a looooong time with everything set to default. Mouse FTW. the XRT blackwood WR was set by mouse before patch Y. BF1 is easy to drive with mouse as well as f08. Call me super crazy, but wheel looks harder lol
I'm actually beginning to like the BF1, after finding out the the TC can be adjusted!

No need to worry about power oversteer anymore.
