It would be nice if the game shipped with different setups for the different cars on different tracks. I know that many people here can create their own setups and stuff, but for those of us (mostly in America) who have never raced a car because they'd get sued by everyone within 5 miles for everything they did, some of us do not have the experience to create a good setup and are forced to go online hunting for them. I realize it's not that hard to download a setup, but I think it would be a nice touch if the game gave you, maybe not the OPTIMAL, PERFECT setup for a track, but perhaps at least a few setups to choose depending on what circuit you are running.
Improved default sets are always useful. They're not terrible anymore but still lack polish IMO. I don't see having any track specific setups af any real benefit as changes are usually quite minor and it's more important for a beginner to get a feel for the car.
Track specific setups would be a waste of space, they'd soon just present 20 useless sets that clutter space to the average user who would ditch them instantly. Having a better base setup (like Bob's Easy race sets) would definitely be an improvement though.
You don't need real world racing experience for setting up in LFS, actually you have 1000times more opportunity to test and evaluate something in LFS than in real life. Go read some basic setup tutorial or something, it's pretty easy to make a basic setup with a good balance and one that is consistent, all my sets are mostly slightly modified race_S and most of them are capable for being 1.5sec to WR (accounting my shite driving).
If you don't trust your skill in setup making, go download the setup analyser and adjust things by the book, it will also work.
Setups in LFS have nothing to do with real life experience.
You just have to adapt the setup philosophy to the sim’s physics limitations.
Apart from that you can never tune a real car in a way you do in LFS… IRL most of the times you don’t know the exact bump and rebound ratios you play with clicks… you can’t adjust the antiroll bars by 1NM.. you just can pick how thick the ARB in scales of some mm same goes with the springs where you have very limited choices… Maybe aliment is the only think possible in detail and that usually after some modifications but you still have not room to play from +4.5 to -4.5 degrees.
In LFS you can use directly all the theoretic principles of car dynamics while IRL the decisions you can make are very limited…
As for the theory which is the only think you need to make a decent setup in LFS, LFSforum is heaven for someone who wants to learn. The only experience that will make you build faster setups is the visual one that you get, racing in LFS.
Anyway not anyone can be forced to make setups. that’s why all these setup databases that exist are so popular. Usually the only think you have to do is just to adjust a bit the tire pressures and/or the tire compound so they can last for races.
Still though the request could be valid… there could be some better rase S type setups but track specific setups?? No way… this is waste of time for anyone because setups evolve by racers... not game developers. …there isn’t out there any recipe for the perfect setup...
What I meant was, people who have cars that they take to track days know things like, if the back end is sliding out under braking, how to adjust the brake bias and toe-in and out and stuff, and what to change for a very twisty course vs. a straight track. I don't know that kind of stuff and so I have no idea where to even start when trying to tune a car for a track. What kind of setup analyzer would you recommend then?
Bob's easy race -like neutral sets would do the trick. One per car, or two for the rallycross ones. If you want to adjust downforce or gearing, it's really not that hard to move one slider.
