just started up my laptop, after two weeks of not using it.
and plugged the power in and it seems to charge up to 20% and then just stop showing up the light disappears that normally states whether it's charging or charged.

if i take the battery out it shows up for about 3 seconds then dies again? any ideas

Yeah... laptop batteries do that. It's how they die. Soon it won't take a charge at all and you will need a replacement. Laptop batteries will continue to discharge when not in use... in some cases... a really deep discharge or long period with no recharge will make them go from healthy... to never healthy again.

How old is this laptop?

To be honest with you I have a Toshiba Satelite A100... etc

Had it two years I think and the more you use it the mroe you are killing the battery, I run the laptop pritty much all the time on main power supply and well after i unplug it has 3% left, its rubbish

If you claim the battery caught fire and destroyed your house you may be able to sue toshiba
