I'm thinking about organizing some kind of 2008 F1 season manager game for LFS, just like last year. I haven't yet invested much time and effort into researching the possible games but I'd defenately like to use something different and better game than last year. If you have any suggestions, please post, I'll make a poll about it if there is enough interest and options .

We would probably use some kind of manager that doesn't take too much time and isn't too complicated but still has enough depth and length to make things interesting until the last race. I would not like to use any game that is simple "you get x money at the start of the season, pick 2 drivers and engine and chassis and start cllecting points, points = money". Those games are not really good after the first races when the most important points are earned with luck.


Hopefully people aren't already bored of these browser manager games

I've very interested. The only F1 manager games I've used are the "Money + Pick Driver + Engine/Chassis/Gearbox etc = Your Team" format, which it would be nice to avoid

It says "the new season begins february 2008" so I guess they are just preparing it for it.

Anyhoo, I would defenately want to use some different game this year simply because that f1manager.info one gets kinda boring after the first few races and you can pretty much tell you will win it after 4 or 5 races.

As I mentioned earlier I'd like everyone to post if they find some neat manager game. All it really needs is to have something to do with the 2008 F1 season and be simple and straighforward.

Below is a list of possible sites. All are relatively similar, points and money based managers that follow the 08 F1 season's calendar. Some are not online yet and some have some interesting ideas and some might be totally rubbish . All are free to play and have a league system (I think). And all are simple and straight forward .

Most of the manager game are almost like identical copies of each others. Pick 2 drivers, engine and chassis and build your team and start scoring points. This design has imho one basic flaw: the one who guesses the first two or three races the best and gets the best points from those races is almost impossible to beat by other later on the season. Basically the top spots are decided in first few races which is something I'd like to avoid because the second half of the season is pretty boring for the rest.

I'm a bit suspicious about the 6th one simply because there are few translations to english missing and some links are not working. I found no english forum for it either so it might be best to avoid that to avoid possible problems later on. The third one sounds interesting because the idea is simple: you have X amount of money, buy as many drivers as you want/can.

Yeah, although the 6th one seems to have a much more in depth scoring system, the language issue may cause problems.

The 3rd one doesn't sound to bad actually (now i've read the rules properly) although it is very very simple. But you can have as many drivers as you can afford, and you can change them from race to race, (bit like the lottery numbers) Simple yet effective.

Obviously there's no way of telling what the others offer until they open up their sites.

So maybe if we get a few thumbs up for Fantasy Racers we should pencil it in as our 1st choice. (They also do Fantasy Riders i.e MotoGP, SBK and BSB, Maybe we could have a double header ? cars and bikes ?)

The fantasy riders is defenately one of the most interesting ones, it has already run 7 seasons (years) which probably means that there won't be any problems and they have got the scoring right. And it is a bit different than the one we ran last year so all the better.

Still, the F1 is defenately the primary game, tbh. I don't think we should split up too much although if there is enough interest I see no problem running bikes too. The bikes option certainly has its own appeal being little more unpredictable and exciting than F1.

Of course, if we don't get enough people for the F1 game, we might switch to bikes .

I have never tried these manager games over internet before, but I am interested in it.

www.f1manager.info is quite boring in my opinion. Two drivers, chassis and engine. Prices are fixed during the whole season. As soon as you have Ferrari or McLaren the game gets boring. If you like a simple game, this is the one ;-) It has quick updates though.

Prices fluctuate during the whole season and the edit team page is very user-friendly. One click to buy something (selling goes automatically). And finally, the broker fee depends on your ranking. People that make the wrong choices in the beginning can still catch up with the rest because they pay less fee when updating their team!

www.f1grandprixmanager.com which is about the same as f1racemanager.com (except the fuel and the broker fee). But administration is very slow. Updating the score is on Monday (the other 2, both on Sunday) and last year the owner of the site asked the users for more bonus questions :-) Good game (for quite some years now), many subscribers but it seems that the owner cannot manage it alone.

f1racemanager.com is my favorite but I would say, join more than 1 manager. And then compare them next year!

Imho, running multiple leagues (more than one manager game) isn't imho a good solution. During the season people will lose interest, drop out due to other reasons and having multiple leagues might just get too time consuming. After all, there are people who will run other leagues with their friends etc. so it would just build up. And most probably it would be the same people who are in the top anyway so it wouldn't even "level" the field in any way. I think we should defenately run just one league in one manager, for one semi-official LFS f1 manager game.

Last year we used that f1manager.info one and to be honest it gets kinda boring quickly because there is practically no way to catch up and it gets boring when everyone has the best parts. That f1racemanager.com looks very interesting with all the addon stuff without being too hard or too much work. Other interesting ones are the ff1.co.uk and fantasyracers.com of which the ff1.co.uk does motogp as well which might interest some people as well (the unofficial hush hush option).

Anyway, I think it is best to wait a week or two at least to see what the options are. But that http://www.f1racemanager.com/ looks very promising.

I'm just waiting that all the manager games are opened so I can see what they are like and make the final decision. This thread was just to see if there is anough people for this year and to hear if someone has some experience/knowledge on some other games that I've found.

None of the mentioned games actually start in februari, some of the games are just opened for sign up then. F1 season starts mid march and the first race is on 16th of march so there is still lot of time left.
