I think it is just good that your vision is not perfect and the A-pillar actually does block your vision. I don't know hat kind of car nihil actually drives but I've heard people that have had to switch to new cars because the A-pillar was obstructing their vision. One of these people was my driving instructor (iirc it was Toyota Avensis 02 or so). There are few corners where I live where I really have to move my head a lot if I want to see what's behind the A-pillar. So A-pillar can really obstruct your vision. But I admit that the shape of the corner plays big role here too. Corners of certain radius and lenght put that A-pillar right "in front of you".

From my experience the FXR is the one which "suffers" from this problem but it is imho not big deal, just something you (should) get used to. After all, the biggest harm that bloking A-pillar can do to you in real life in real life is that you don't see oncoming car/bicycle/poor people or pedestrians while turning left (or right in UK) (pedestrians, hint hint devs ).

One "solution" might be to implement a button to move head sideways so you could peek into the corners but tbh I don't think anyone has enough buttons in our wheels to do so
Quote from Bandit77 :my girlfriend has a roadster with a damn low windshield. the rearview-mirror makes it impossible for me to see the road when there's a right turn ahead (also because the mirror is so close to my head). solution when I want to go quicker: I remove the mirror.

proper solution: sell the bmw if youre taller than 160
or in other words if youre not part of the "kurzgwadelte" people form the alps

True, true... but it's not exactly the same thing. I have that problem too in my car: for example sometimes pedestrians crossing the street from the left are hidden behind my A-pillar - but only because I don't actively look at them. If I know they're there I can move my head accordingly and I WILL see them... as long as they're not dwarfs and closer than 1 meter to my car.

Quote from sgt.flippy :And the fact you say "remove the mirror" really makes me wonder how YOU drive in real life

As I implied: I remove the mirror when I want to go quick. When I want to go quick, there's not that much going on behind me. Additionally, there are two more mirrors outside the car, AND I know how to turn my head. There's plenty of road vehicles that do not have mirrors inside - or they do not show anything. Ever driven a car that was packed to the roof? Or ridden a bike?

Wow, baaaaaad guess, really bad guess.
and in rl you dont always have wipers cleaning your windscreen right to the A-pillar...

Driven all sorts, but that's not really the point. I didn't say that the A-pillar is not an obstructive piece of design, only that it interferes with your vision significantly if you can't be arsed to move your head

Sorry about the bold repetition, but I'm also speaking as a motorcyclist who has had regular need to remonstrate with 'cage' drivers...

Anyway, you agree with me: "There are few corners where I live where I really have to move my head a lot if I want to see what's behind the A-pillar."

You see, if you really want to, you can....
I think there's some merit in this suggestion anyway.
I think partial transparency/translucency of part of the pillar wouldn't be a bad idea. It would replicate the way you (as many have said) can reduce the obstruction by moving your head, without the added complication of weird lateral head movements of the camera in game.
