On the Forumla one website there is a poll saying what BMW driver will have the edge in 2008. Now why is kubica leading? like seriously, he has shown nothing in his entire f1 career that he is as good as Heidfeld at anystage what makes him soo good, i smell some overatedness here..

He has only been in F1 for two years: 2006 and 2007, and 2006 was only part season.

In 2006, Nick Heidfeld scored 23 points in 18 races. That's 1.28 points per race. Meanwhile, Kubica scored 6 points in 5 races, which is 1.2 point per race.

In 2007, Heidfeld scored 61 points in 17 races: 3.59/race. Kubica had 39 in 16 races: 2.44/race. (In comparison with Kovalainen: 1.76/race, Rosberg: 1.18/race, Fisichella: 1.31/race, Wurz: 0.81/race.)

So he's almost matched Heidfeld's performance in 2006, and did a very respectable job in 2007.

It's not that he's a good driver now, but that he, unlike Heidfeld who has been in F1 for 8 years, has plenty of room for improvement. He's still very young, inexperienced, and highly rated by other drivers. Lewis Hamilton was once quoted as saying that he'd pick Kubica as having the greatest chance of being WDC.

In 2006 that was all done in one race, not to mention heidfeld would of beaten him if it wasn't due to mechainical problems.

and 2007 was a disaster for kubica, and for heidfeld its been easily hes best season yet.

Heidfeld did beat him in 2006.

Heidfeld is in the peak of his career right now. Unless he wins WDC this season, his driving is going to decline. Kubica is almost certain to improve this year and will keep going up for the next few seasons as long as he keeps his career path in the straight and narrow (ie. in BMW or better team).

Kubica just needs to smooth out the rough edges to his driving. He drives like Alonso: very aggressive, lots of understeer and heavy on the throttle. But he's not quite as refined as Alonso is. Heidfeld is smooth and consistent - ala. Button and Raikkonen, but I think his driving skill has reached its limits.

This year is probably going to make or break Kubica. Heidfeld has had 8 years of driving TC F1 cars, while Kubica last drove non-TC single-seaters in 2005 (Formula Renault 3.5L in WSBR). If Kubica doesn't beat or match Heidfeld this year, I'll gladly eat my words, but I still think he's very promising - more promising than Heidfeld in future years.
kubica is a good overall driver and pretty fast to! heidfeld wassnt alot in the picture the last few years..
He's rated fine IMO, I think Kubica is a great driver and he has shown this, a seasons experience should be good for him, hopefully he can show this aslong as the BMW holds up.
Can anyone remind what Heidfeld has done in F1 that Kubica hasn't? Which year did he win a race or a WDC?
I don't think he was ever given the chance to do so, in 2001 he out paced kimi in the suaber yet mclaren signed him over nick, by 2004 he was looking to quit due to horror seasons in the jordan, but williams gave him a drive and since then he has excelled..

Well, he outperformed Alesi in 2000.

A bit unfair to compare him to Kimi in 2001 though. Heidfeld already had a year in F1 by then, and he had graduated from F3000 before that. Kimi was fresh out of British Formula Renault. Yet the points difference wasn't that great: Heidfeld had 12, Raikkonen had 9.

But i still think it was a weird choice considering kimi had relations with ferrari and nick has already been involved with mclaren being their test driver in 1999..

Not weird at all if you consider they just had a Fin winning championships for them.

Exactly I'm sure a crash that big did have an affect on him as much as any racing driver will claim they don't. He's still young and has a lot more time to gain experience and move his way up the grid where as Heidfeld must be nearing retirement.
