[InSim]: Error Message (old version of InSim)
hi,
what exactly does the following message mean?

"InSim: packet from unauthorised IP address".

I get this, when i connect to my LFS dedi server via Internet!
Hm.. interesting. I've never seen this message before

Does your server run as LAN server? Maybe it is considered unauthorised if connecting from outside the LAN (with the specific IP ranges for private networks).
no, it's not a LAN server...
it's a common LFS server which you can get from LFS hosters...

could the InSim Relay create that message?
cause if I connect then 2 programmes are using InSim...
I think an Insim server (the game you are communicating with) can only take 1 connection, so trying to make 2 connections will result in that error.
That could be the cause indeed.

Usually the old connection is overwritten when sending a new InSim Init packet. So if the Relay gets disconnected it tries to reconnect (after no ACK packets are received anymore, guess that's how it checks if it is disconnected), both may not be able to know when they're disconnected instantly and they keep sending packets to the server and causing the errormessage.
actually, there can indeed be only one connection with/to insim, but only the first connection is the one that works. Another incoming connection request will fail, because it came from another ip/port than the first connection.
When this second connection attempt happens, you'll get the message as pasted in the first post.

i thought that...

is there a possibillity to use just more than one InSim application?
I've heard about a so called InSim Gateway (used by Racemanager).
how can I make such a gateway?

Got overriding of the old connection changed, uh?

Yes, Silkswift once wrote a Gateway in Python (yes, also included in the RaceManager compilation). His website is currently unavailable though (http://lfs.marcoz.org).

It connects via InSim and other applications connect to the gateway instead of to InSim directly. All packets are forwarded in either way except for the InSimInit and Close commands, I assume. That's how it basically works.
hmmm...
so i have to contact Silkswift...
thx!
There have been a lot InSim changes in the last Patch which results in
a) The RaceManages uses an old incompatible InSim Version and cannot talk with LFS anymore.
b) LFS can now handle multiple InSim connections which makes the gatewas obsolent.
c) Well see a) ;P
a) was such a big issue you thought it was worth mentioning twice?
I'll close this thread as it refers to an old version of InSim.
