IGTC 2008 Season: Several Spots Still Open!

Hello drivers!

The IGTC still has several grid positions open for the upcoming 2008 season, which begins officially on February 23rd with a 4-hour event at Blackwood!

We have a strong list of teams signed up already, including perennial favorites like My3id Gaming, ConeDodgers, UKCT, CoRe Racing, spdoRacing, and Cyber Racing, as well as up & comers like Adaptive Racing, Concept Racing, Peregrinus, and c4Racing. To see the full roster of competitors, and for instructions on how to register, look here.

We currently have between 4 and 7 spots remaining in the 29-car field.

On the morning of Saturday, Feb. 9th, these remaining spots will be opened to multi-car entries from already-entered teams. Interest has been strong enough that we would expect this to fill the field. In other words, you have until Friday to apply and be assured of a spot.

Thanks for your interest, and see you on the track!

[As explained in the abovelinked page, the IGTC is looking for teams comprised mainly of drivers with at least 10,000 miles of experience in LFS. While we realize that this is a somewhat arbitrary figure, we also believe it's a good cutoff between those who have devoted enough time to the sim and those who have not. We are open to applications from teams who do not meet this figure, given a test session with league admins.]
With three days left till the entry cutoff, there are 2-5 spots left open (depending on pending entries).

If you have any interest, now is the time!
*This is an idea purely for the sake of dialogue*

What would be your thoughts as to letting more entrants into the series, and have legitimate qualifications on speed?

Top 29 race, below that don't.

Thoughts for it:
1) I doubt even with 40 teams entered that we would have to cut cars on race day.
(Teams always fail to show up; we Averaged 13.25 teams per race last season and our largest field was 17)
2) Encourage teams to really prepare
3) Legitmately make it a full competitive entrance (without the safety of a guarenteed spot)

Obviously not for a test race, but I believe this could boost the average race attendance and competitiveness of the series.

I think it´s a very good idea.
And what if all 40 teams show up? You would need to have multiple qualifying sessions, which although a bit of an admin-burden, it would solve the problem. I like this idea, though it will probably lead to withdrawals from those that don't make the first couple of events.
It's certainly something to consider and something that certain real series do (NASCAR for one). But even in those cases it's usually shoestring budget teams that don't make the field, and they only attempt a few races per season (unless we're talking about Michael Waltrip, ha ha). Sim racing is about having fun, and sending a team home without a chance to race isn't fun for admins or for drivers.

Furthermore, I worry that bigger/quicker teams would enter multiple cars and force the smaller teams out on a regular basis. If a league did it this way there would almost certainly have to be no multi-car teams allowed.

Either way, I think it's a bit late to do it this way for the 2008 season. It's an idea that we'll definitely take into consideration for the future, though.
p.s...

ONE DAY LEFT TO ENTER BEFORE WE OPEN IT TO MULTI-CAR TEAMS!!!

Conversely, its the smaller "shoestring" teams that are more likely to flake out than the 8+ driver super teams, who have the manpower, experience, and organization to reliably bring 2+ cars to a race.

Should the bigger teams have to kick there non-top 3-4 drivers out, just to give them the opportunity to race in IGTC, even if they're more prepared/faster/experienced than a small team?

Why should members of a large team be punished for being members of a large team?

In LFS, everyone's got the same equipment, no advantage over smaller teams.

And again, despite having 40 something teams entered throughout the series last year, we never had more than 17 show up, over 2 weeks out of the first race (which at least 1 team has already decided a no-show). Hardly, not enough time IMO.
The field for the season is now full, but we encourage interested teams to submit an entry anyway, as we will be drawing from the list of extra entries should an entered team withdraw from the series.
