Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :The attached video is a nice sim too btw! (sorry its zipped into a.. RAR..)

Honestly it was miles ahead of the commercial successor. I thought it looked gorgeous (for its time although it's still not bad and looks less silly than nK Pro) and ran well on my old PC (nK Pro didn't) even if it did have the odd rather enormous physics mishap every so often
Quote from nihil :ROFL... Worst place in the world to ask that question and get an objective answer... Really, If you're thinking of buying an S2 licence and want some kind of guidance, then ask some more precise questions...

Agreed, and LAWL @ Need for Speed Underground 2

Ahh well its not Netkar Namie, although I agree the free version of Netkar had its strengths!

What is it then?
It is a car I quickly made for rFactor. (and while it is part of a huge new mod, its unlikely the first release will see these physics in place..)
Quote from Whitmore :The Need for Speed type physics looks fun though.

You have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
Sounds interesting

If your ever in need of a tester...
Quote from ajp71 :No, if you ever try opening the files up and playing about you'll find it's just a simple spreadsheet style curve exactly the same as the ISI one.

Not exactly true, the RBR engine curves (the VE ones, the trq ones are just for display) only make part of the equation. Yes, there is "a curve" at effect, but the underlying engine model is still much more complex than most others.

No the underlying engine model is a simple curve. It's the addon multipliers/effects that are more complicated. I suspect LFS models its turbos this way as well. Using a non-physics based curve may be the only option atm and it may be close enough to hardly make a difference but it's still not simulating properly.
I like rfactor and LFS. The others I haven't tried so I can't comment.
My question for Tristan is this... How long has it been since you tried rfactor? I agree that the physics aren't as good or even close to LFS, not by a long shot but.... the variety is awsome!

The reason I ask how long it has been since you tried it is, I play with some people that tried it awhile ago and didn't like it at all. Then after trying it recently they have changed their opinions.
It definitly took some time to get the wheels setup and such, and to get the same tracks, and to get a server going, and to connect to it, and not to get an error, but after all this was taken care of it is a fun game!!

rFactor is currently installed, and was last loaded about 6 weeks ago. Yes, there are a lot of mods ("variety is awsome [sic]"), but 99.9% are utter rubbish, not worthy of 1kb let alone several megabytes.

It's taken a couple of years to get the wheel setup, a couple of years to get the FFB acceptable in SOME mods (realfeel), finding the right version of tracks is time consuming and not straightforward, servers are unreliable at best, errors are commonplace. Once that is taken care of (takes about 60 man years of work) I'm sure it's quite fun. In the same way Minesweeper is fun. But realistic it ain't.
I enjoy both LFS and rFactor, but in rFactor I can only get enjoyment out of my own cars. I feel many of the rFactor haters have not given it a real enough chance. I do play LFS and rFactor enough and have a love/hate relationship with both. There can be plenty of subtlety in the handling in rFactor, and while not perfect, neither is LFS at the moment.

rFactor is certainly NOT unrealistic per-se, but yes, 99% is poorly made content.... LFS is much better out of the box. But when talking about the pure driving experience, not the dodgy menus, weird settings and framerates or input lag.. Just offline testing at high fps on a system where it actually runs smoothly, I think I'd give rFactor the edge in handling over LFS, realizing that in some areas LFS might be a bit ahead, and in other aspects rFactor wins.

But for rFactor I have 2 or 3 cars, the 2234123424 mods are almost always rubbish.
Yeah I forgot that sorry.

Seriously though ... NFS scoring higher than "Grand Prix Legends"?

LOL. I put that option for a joke, fully expecting it would get 0 votes. Maybe 1 or 2. When it got the first few votes I thought it was people trying to be funny.

Now I'm forced to accept the astonishing reality that close to 16% of posters on this thread actually believe NFS to be realistic! Just goes to show the general level of driving/racing ignorance around.

No, it just shows that you draw the wrong conclusions from the poll results.
How do you know that? lol.

It is possible, yes.

It's also possible that you drew the wrong conclusions. Unless you are special and privy to some extra information that everyone else is not...

My assumption is that when the vote is so high that not all of them are joke/dummy votes. Unless everyone has an extraordinarily unoriginal sense of humour.
I hope you're right anyway!

But with some of the opinions seen floating around during the short time I've been here I also think it's possible many of those votes are serious.

You've only been here a short while we get bored of the same old same old so every now an then you get a wave of sarcasm, you just happened on one such groundswell just watch out for the tsunami
I voted for NFS because you can drift and pimp your car and shit. Every game you can't put f4t rimmz and hoodscoops and exhausts and vinyls on your ride isn't realistic.

YO!
Haha
Thank god, finally the poll results have been corrected.

YO!

in lfs, ucant even add turbos and neon lights to your car... and it calls itself a racing simulator.
Quote from Technique :wait... are you talking about this Race Drivin' ???

Cool, I finally know where did the physics engine from TDU come from on "Hard" :F

Edit : I missed Stunt Car Racer on the list! That game was awesome on Amiga! :]
