Well, Fidel's very old now and I think he's proved his point: even if you're a small, poor country you can successfully stand up to your large, aggressive neighbour - you can also piss them off for 50 years, just by exisiting. Viva Fidel
C.R., there's a little problem with your post: no one, in this thread, said a bad thing about Americans, so it would be nice if you bring your irritation somewhere else.
Ah! Now that you point at it, it is clear to me as well.
I thought my mind was overworked on my english too limited at first because I did not get the meaning of this rant.
love you too.
Cheers Albieg, no your right. I will delete that post...long story short I am stressed out and wanted a place to vent, this just not being a proper place. Sorry.
Indeed, Fidel was a great, um, motivator to many Cubans. But, Fidel & communism aside, I like Cuba because of the fact that its very existence as an independent state (for better or worse) annoys the shit out of El Norte.
Considering what's happened in many other Latin American countries as a result of Northern internvention, I'm not quite sure a US-friendly democracy would have made things any better for your average Cuban.
I think I'm sort of indifferent to that. In many ways it was a great asset to US governments as an opportunity to stir up some extra paranoia points into the average American mix. A country with nothing of value that would compel them to conquer it and thus kept as a "handy reminder threat".
At "best" it had the potential to end up being a Hawaii-a-like State.
I don't think we want to take over cuba. It's not even a pain in our side. We would only want to liberate it if it meant that their people would finally be free from being tortured, or being denied schooling and medical care for not being "politically desirable" (not socialist). In march 2003 60 peaceful protesters were sentenced to 28 years in prison for holding signs in a square. One was kept in a cell with a guy who had TB and subsequently caught it. He still has 25 more years left and they won't treat him. He'll die before release.
This is much more than a thorn in the side of "El Norte" Being a state would sure as shit be better than dying in a dank cell for being a reporter
im sorry, being photographed in your underwear is not as bad. millions of drunk college girls do it, it cant be all bad plus we don't really torture reporters, only militants. big difference.
The first issue is debatable, the second one authorises 'militants' to torture other militants, including soldiers and cooperating civilians. I won't deem that as an acceptable practice just because you think it's acceptable, but if you'll ever happen to be a victim of your own logic I won't shed a tear.
well i try my hardest to avoid being a muslim extremist, but you know how hard it is these days. I shed no tears for people who would kill me just for being American, would you feel sympathy for someone who would kill you for being italian?
You don't need to be a muslim extremist to qualify, you just have to be a stupid extremist. Nationality is indifferent to me except for being part of my education due to geographic reasons, I'm no xenophobe like you demonstrated to be in the other thread.
