Bathurst - Pathetic
Just checking the website for fun after being out of the country for a while. Maybe it was done ages ago (probably), but I just noticed all the corners and straights have been renamed to commercialised crap.

Jim Beam Straight my arse. Conrod Straight. Supercheap Auto Pitlane? Are you ****ing kidding me!?

God I hate it how commercialized Australia is getting. We're getting just like America (and there's nothing wrong with Americans, but we're just not them!).

Same in the Rugby League. "Holden Half-time". WTF.

And now by beloved Rugby Union is going down the same track too. So much for over a century of tradition.

Sigh.

Rant over. Not that I expect anyone cares except me.
Off topic section perhaps?

And yes, the world is getting commercial, but what can we do? Money talks.
Prices are going up heaps at least in here, but wages aren't..
Maybe WW III resets everything like has happened before.
Haha, NASCAR doesn't even have a sponsor for pitlane, I bet they'll catch onto the idea after this though.
wow, i have to say. I don't know any American track like that.

Nascar is crazy with sponsors. It's rediculous that some cars run 2 main sponsors.
Oh God, can you imagine NASCAR

The Budweiser pitlane, the Gatorade Victory lane...

thats unexpected given how little corners there are to give a name to in nascar

I think it actually is the Gatorade Victory lane already, or something like that. Not 100% sure though.

Yeah I didn't mean corners as it would be kind of pointless to name corners on an oval, I just meant a sponsor for pit lane.
God, that's so stupid.

I was watching V8's last season and i was tired of those "Zinger replays". (dammit i still remember) This is much worse.

I just wonder, when Eau-Rouge will be renamed into Wonderbra turn.
its not so much that they sold the name of the pitstraight its who they sold it to
You must really have been out of Australia for a long while Think you are in for some serrious shocks when you return lol

I have been lamenting the increase in bureaucracy, red tape and political correctness gone mad for years now
Correct me if I'm wrong, "Mazda Laguna Seca", that the next step for Bathurst, "Holden Mount Panorama"
The V8 supercars are really the worst with this commercial shite. Everything they show have some commercial ad on it. Imho, it is way over the top..

Holden Mount Panorama *sigh*

EEK!! Shows how much I know then :P

I dunno, it's just got too commercial

/me goes Googling for sponsored racetracks.

I dunno, you can't really name corners on an oval. IF you did...great product placement xD

EDIT: Don't forget Infinion Raceway (formerly Sears Point)
And Lowes Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway).
Yep :S

Forgot that one

I heard once that when the organiser of one of the big American Championships (I forgot which), was asked wether they would race at a new track that year, he said "yes we are looking into running events at that market".

Racing is now a product, racing tracks are markets, like evrything now its just another place to push products out to people
Nascar is all about the markets. That's why they are trying to get a track near NYC, Denver, and in Washington state somewhere. Because those are big markets that don't have a track near them currently, and that's basically money being left on the table.

Errr....aren't there short tracks up there? If so, why not race on one of them?

/me would rather have open-wheelers personally. Portland FTW!

DK
God forbid they try and keep the events running by getting sponsorship

I'm sure there are since a couple of drivers are from there, but I doubt those short tracks have enough seats/facilities to accommodate NASCAR.

Funny that we are talking about sponsored tracks also, because California Speedway just announced it was renamed today: Auto Club Speedway of Southern California.

I can think of two from WA, Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne

WTF don't they just put on a race at Portland?

DK
Because its a road course and I doubt they're planning on adding another road race without getting rid of one of the current ones.
Good point. They have a road race in NY, a road race in CA...

If they drop a few oval races...they could fit it on

That'd never work; Portland has strict noise levels because of the close proximity to residential areas IIRC. 43 NASCAR stockers generate a hell of a lot of noise. It'd give those idiots trying to get that track shut down more cannon fodder.
